Re: boy or girl name: Emerson?

  • when i hear it i think of a boys name-thats just how it sounds to me
  • Emerson I think girl. Emery I think boy.

  • Neither, it's a last name to me.  I don't like most names that end in "son" for girls.  Many literally translate to "son of ________."
  • Love it for a boy, I know a girl named Emerson and it just doesnt really fit. But if you love it for a girl, use it.

Exactly. I have no idea why that would make a good name for a girl.

  • since i guess it could go either way i suppose you'll have to duke it out with your hubby! =)
  • It ends in -son, so I say it's a boy's name.  It makes me think of Ralph Waldo Emerson.
  • Boy

IMO: Anything ending in -son = boy name. (I know, I know. Addison and Madison end in -son).

  • It's a girl's name now--like Avery. I have cousin in his 20's named Emerson, though.
  • I immediately think girl, but since it is a 'son' name I suppose technically boy. I think the nn Emmie would be cute.
  • I think it is a very masculine sounding girl's name, but a girl's name (now at least) nonetheless.

  • I think girl...For a nickname you could go with Emme. I am not sure what if any nickname you could use if it was a boy's name.
  • My first thought is boy.  But, either way, I feel like Em would be the go-to nickname.

  • I like it as a girls name - but I like non-girly names for girls... Elliot, Reece, Taylor, etc

  • Techincally, I think it's a boys name, but it was on our list of girls names :)

  • I say boy!  This is actually the name I have wanted for a son since I was in High School but now we are deciding between Weston and Emerson for our son!
  • I like it and would use it for a girl and call her Emme (em-e). I love formal names with cutesy nicknames for little girls.

Here is a chart to show yout DH that it is more commonly used as a girls name.

  • I really like the name for a boy (I think of the racecar driver Emerson Fittipaldi) but it seems to be way more popular as a girl's name.
  • My friend named her little girl, Emerson and they use the nn, Emmy.  I think it's really cute for a girl...  NMS for a boy.
  • Emerson = boy.

    nickname could be Emery
