New Jersey Babies

Stroller for Hoboken/Jersey City Living

Hi, I'm due at the end of April with our first child.

I've been driving myself crazy trying to learn about all the baby products and pick out what will work best for us.

We live in an apartment, so space is limited, and we have stairs...so I'm looking for a stroller that will be functional for me to carry (I'm only 5'1"), can be compact, and can handle the Graco carseat.

Or am I better just using the frame for the Graco carseat and selecting a stroller for when he gets bigger?

Re: Stroller for Hoboken/Jersey City Living

  • There are very lightweight stroller frames that you can buy that are designed to be used just with an infant car seat.  They fold up very small, like an umbrella stroller, weigh only a couple of pounds, and the car seat locks into them.  I know Maclaren makes one, but I don't know any of the details since we're borrowing one from my SIL.  Good luck!

  • I also live in an apartment in jersey city.  I bought a bumbleride flyer and while it is lightweight it is still too heavy for lifting up and down steps.  When my baby was only new we used a snap and go with the carseat. My friend uses the maclaren car seat carrier and she says it is easier to fold.  Now my baby is older we mostly use a maclaren stroller. I can carry it up and down steps especially in train station.  FYI i got mine on ebay brand new for $140... it is the quest which retails at $280 in babies r us

  • The new BJ City Select is AWESOME and folds up really small as a single stroller - and if you have #2 in a couple years you can buy an additional seat and make it a double. I have it for my twins and LOVE it.
  • Stick to the snap and go for now and then get a regular light-weight stroller for later.  I found that many of the regular strollers are not really built for tiny little babies.  Their heads drop forward, they don't stay upright, etc...  But I will warn you that the car seat can get heavy as lo starts to gain weight and grow.  So, carrying the car seat and snap and go can get heavy.
