Hi ladies! DH & I are expecting our first child in October & I'm preparing to change doctors @ the end of the month. I've always known I wanted to go the natural route & had my heart set on the Birth and Women's Center on Swiss...until I found some pretty bad reviews about it on Mamapedia, DFW Moms, etc. They were all a couple of years old but still worried me.
Just wondering if anyone has delivered there recently and has any input? I'm either going w/ them or w/ Dr. Brothers / Dr. Crochet to deliver at Baylor downtwon.
TIA!
Re: Intro & Birth and Women's Center Question
we had our DD at birth & womens center. it was a wonderful experience!
i had originally been working with a midwife at womens health alliance, and planned to deliver med-free at Baylor downtown. my midwife moved away when i was just past 30 weeks, and i wasn't comfortable staying with the practice as it was staffed at that point. i transferred to BWC, and i think it was a great decision for us.
i think several mamas who post here delivered there, so you may get other info. feel free to PM me if you want any more info!
GL with your decision!
Thanks so much for the response! Glad I could get an up-to-date review from someone so I'll know if I should still consider them as a contender. I do hope some other ladies chime in as well.
WOW! I can't believe anyone would give the B&WC a bad review! I
Cherie, she is amazing. She is brutal during your pregnancy though, lol, but she does it for your benefit. She grills you about what you eat and wants you to walk a mile day (it sucked in the middle of Aug, it was HOT, lol), but she will explain that you have to prepare/train for the marathon that is giving birth. Also, they usually recommend Linda Werzer (sp?) for your birthing class, she teaches the bradley method and is really good

If you have any questions, feel free to email me, i can not say enough good about the B&WC

I delivered our daughter at the Birth and Women's Center in December. It was great to be able to have a natural birth with no pressure to take drugs and have my husband deliver our daughter/cut her cord, etc. Plus, as a history buff, I also loved the whole historic home setting!
However, we were a bit disappointed in the prenatal care. I was hoping for a more personalized experience; even by the end of my pregnancy, neither of the midwives knew me by name. Cherie was pretty much a complete stranger when I delivered [not that I really thought about it that much while in labor -- I had other things on my mind!
]. We had some other issues, too -- like disappearing blood work, etc.
I had a third-degree tear from delivery and lost a ton of blood, so they ended up transferring me to Baylor a few hours after our daughter was born. Honestly, the nurses and doctors over there were sooooo nice. Deep down, I am scared to death of hospitals, but the Baylor people really won me over. Even though they certainly didn't know who I was, I appreciated the fact that they at least read my chart to get my name before they came into the room!
I learned a lot from the BWC experience and I wouldn't go back and change it. Our little girl is healthy and beautiful! However, if we get blessed with another baby, I would choose Baylor for labor and delivery.
Chiming in with another glowing review of the BWC (so far, anyway!).
I've been using them since I was about 12 weeks along. I originally started w/Brothers/Crochet...then switched to the midwife practice that delivers at Baylor...but I never felt at home until I started going to the BWC. Cherie and Carol (the midwives at BWC) both know me and DH by name, and I adore them and the birth assistant, Beverly. Like a PP said, they've been pretty brutal about my diet and exercise, but I needed the help and very much appreciate it. I feel like my prenatal care has been so much more personalized and hands-on than I would get with an OB practice. I've had both of the midwives spend 30 or more minutes with me at various appointments, just talking about my questions and concerns.
We also took Bradley classes with Linda Worzer. She's expensive, but soo worth it.
I can't say enough good things about the BWC. I'd highly recommend it - at least go in for a tour and get a feel for the place yourself. You'll know if it feels right to you. It definitely did, and still does, for me. I haven't had my baby yet, but I'd be happy to fill you in after I do (hopefully soon!).
Wow - excellent input ladies!! I truly appreciate it. DH & I are scheduled to tour there on the 15th. I will probably be e-mailing / PMing some of you for some detailed info as well after my visit.
Thanks again!
