This is my second pregnancy, I miscarried with my first about 3 years ago. I am about 6 weeks now, and I am having a hard time dealing with the nausea. Its driving me crazy! I'm trying not to get down on myself, but its very hard. I did pick up some ginger candy this weekend that helps with the nausea, but I can't stand to eat them constantly. I try to plan out my meals during the week while at work, but every time I do I get sick even thinking about it. I try to make myself eat, but its an up hill battle. Being new to all of this I don't know what to do. I try not to buy lunch at work, because I honestly can't afford it. But I'm stuck for ideas on how to make this easier. Any wisdom would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Re: Having a hard time with nausea : (
I have been dealing with terrible nausea and m/s this pregnancy. If you end up vomiting a lot, don't be afraid to ask your Dr. for meds.
I had luck with sea bands (not everyone does) and trying to eat small snacks of whatever I thought I could keep down throughout the day. I still ended up losing about 6 lbs (although my OB said this can be normal and isn't harmful to the baby). Sipping ginger ale, trying to stay hydrated (even though water hasn't been going down well) and trying to stay rested seem to help a bit.
I know it sucks, but all you can do is try to get through it and hope it ends sooner than later! I'm 11 weeks now and it's no longer every day all day. Just try to eat what you can when you can.
Oh hunny I feel for you!!! I just hit 10 weeks and am finally starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel, I had never ever ever expected to feel like this. I couldn't even summon the will power to sit up straight and work at the computer. Are you starting to feel like a hunchback??
If you're taking prenatal vits, try cutting them in half and eating each piece at different times of the day, I found this helped me the most. My doc even said to take them before bed. I never thought my prenatal vits would make me sick because I took them for months before my pregnancy and they never bothered me, but I guess that changed.
Whatever you do, try not to force-feed yourself anything. Just eat whatever you can, whenever you can. Flat ginger-ale helped me too, and chocolate teddy grahams...I've had a really hard time eating any sort of vegetables. But the watery, low-flavour kind (celery, cucumber, plain romain lettuce etc) saved my life.
Try not to eat your meal and drink fluids at the same time, I found when separating the two I could eat more without feeling as ill.
Ice Cold Water with a big squeeze of lemon was super refreshing - bonus vitamin C. Even smelling lemon helps.
Preggie Pops!! I never got around to trying them, but heard they're pretty neat. I had a few regular lollies and found them helpful too, just at keeping dry mouth at bay
Lastly, the thing that helped me the most was that every time I whined about it to my mom she'd say "but that's a good thing! The sicker you feel the stronger baby is". I'd say it to myself everytime I had my head over the toilet.
Hang in there!! The next few weeks will fly by, even if it feels like the day drags on longer than ever before.
Hope you feel better soon!
I feel your pain!! This is my second pregnancy, and while the m/s is not as bad as my first, it still is VERY tough. My midwife gave me Zofran for the really bad days. The first day I took it, it was remarkable. It seems less effective, though, the more I take it.
With my first pregnancy, I lived off of soft pretzels. This time around, I've been eating a lot of PB&J, and Ramen noodles. Just try to eat a little bit at a time, and eat often. For me, it is so much worse when I let my stomach get completely empty. Sour candies helped too, the first time around- but not this time!
When all else fails, just keep in mind that it will get better! I know it is hard... I spent many, many days with my head in the toilet crying! In the end, though it is all worth it! GL and take care!
this too for me. it's ok to cry if you need to! and feel free to vent, helped me. my friends who didn't have bad m/s didn't understand and just told me to eat saltines and drink ginger ale and that it'll make it go away. that would make me so annoyed.
I'm having a hard time with this right now as well. I have life saver hard candies in my purse and when I feel sick, I suck on one of those and it usually helps a little. Mostly because my mouth is producing so much saliva, it upsets my stomach even more. Yesterday, the thought of food made me sick, so when dinner rolled around I had some jello with fruit in it and some cold pudding. That worked out pretty well. Just eat what sounds good. It's been trial and error with me. Those little apple sauce cups seem to work out great too.
My aunt (who was sick the whole 9 months!!) suggested to me to have saltine crackers and a glass of water before even getting out of bed. I'm not a big fan of salt, but it supposed to help.
Doc also told me to try Vitamin B or gingerale (flat).
1. Gator-aid has helped keep me by keeping me hydrated, along with
2. zofran (an anti-nausea medication) from the doctor.
3. Also you can try Herbal Ginger tea (ginger ale pop itseld has very little real ginger in it).
4. Saltines and basic carbs seem to work too.
Basically it sucks, right?
At the same time I can't help but feel blessed to feel this way because it means I'm pregnant!! And many women would give anything to have that!
