Trouble TTC

RE Update and Plan

Ok here it goes:

RE wants me on Glucophage (Metformin)  1000mg for 1 week and then upped to 2000 mg.  We are doing the Clomid cycles, 2 for sure, 3 max.  My RE hates Clomid and really doesn't like to waste time using it.  And he hates Femara, says he hasn't seen much success with it, so he goes straight to injects.  He actually offered for me to go straight to them but I want to give Clomid a shot.

DH's SA wasn't good in the RE's opinion.  Concentration was 46 million, Motility (didn't catch it, I know I'm bad) All I caught about the Motility was that they didn't perform well in the RE's swim-up test and Morph was 8%.  RE did not like the morph, so he wants us going straight to IUI. And I asked him about supplements and he said they would do nothing for DH, I even suggested that DH should maybe start taking a Multivitamin and the RE said he could if he wanted, which = DH fighting me on taking one....ugh :(

So I should get to start Clomid on Monday the 15th, if AF doesn't take her sweet time. He's having me take it from days 3 to 7 and then he'll monitor from days 12 to 17 (and a baseline on day 6).

What do you girls think?

Re: RE Update and Plan

  • I know every RE has different standards they like to see, but 46 million really isn't that bad.  MH had 28 at our first IUI and it worked just fine.  Morph is also not bad.  Studies have shown that morph between 4% and 15% have the same pg rates as morph over 15%.  MH's was only 5 and again, IUI did work.  Now a 46 mil count may have better results with IUI and that is what he is talking about.  Anyway, just wanted to share so you don't think you are doomed or anything :)

I think the plan sounds great though.  I really hope it works for you!

  • Gym~ Thanks for the info, He said 8% was borderline in what kinda morph he likes to see, so I think we're still normal and kinda happy we are doing IUI, I think it's a good plan.

  • Sounds like a good plan to me.  I would definitely get DH on a vitamin, force feed him if needed!  It may or may not make a difference, but it can't hurt anything.  I also think IUI is a great idea.

FYI on the met.  It does a number on your tummy.  I've been having all the s/e listed, yuck!  I highly recommend taking it after you eat, it seems to be less harsh on a full tummy.  I'm assuming you'll take the pills spaced out over the day, but when you start I'd take them more in the evening.  If you took your very first dose first thing in the morning you might spend your whole work day in the potty.  Take your first dose with dinner so you can see how you will react to it.  I've been told the symptoms get better once you get used to it.

Good luck!  I hope this is it for you!!!

Thanks for the tips, RE told me to take it in the evening after my meal, so I'm right with you!  I really hope it helps.  Are you losing weight on it yet?  My RE said I could loose up to 15% of my body weight, isn't that crazy??

  • I think your plan sounds great! It's also refreshing to hear about a doctor who doesn't think Clomid is a wonder drug.

  • That's great, Ash! Good luck with the metformin - for me, it hasn't been bad as far as side effects.  Except when I eat lettuce.  Which is very ironic and sucks pickles.

Your husband's counts aren't bad - so hopefully the clomid IUI does the trick! Good luck!

I've been on it just shy of 3 weeks and I've lost 5lbs without really trying.  I'm now following a "no white" diet, but I'm not counting calories.  I'm working out as much as I always have.  I would say the met is definitely helping me lose other lbs I gained after the pill.  It's the only thing that's really changed.  I don't expect to lose tons of weight, but I'm really hoping it'll help me lose the post-bcp weight.

That's great!!  Congrats on the 5lbs weight loss  :)  I have been following a "no-white" diet the last 2 weeks and have already lost 7lbs, so I'm really hoping Met pushes it even further for me, I could stand to loose anywhere from 15 to 20.
