She climbed her changing table at 5am...

This morning, I woke up to Eve crying. I got up and went to check on her to find her sitting on top of her changing table!!! Thank goodness it was attached to the wall. The changing table is now out of her room in our hallway. I guess this means that I need to finish her big girl room sooner rather than later.

She also keeps getting out of bed and falling asleep in front of her bedroom door. When I go to check on her at night, I keep bumping into her and having to push her out of the way so that I can put her back into bed. Once she's back in, she stays until early morning when she wakes up.

We've tried the toddler alarm clock and she wasn't having it. The lights were too bright for my black-out shade sleeper. Anyone have any other tips for keeping your toddler in bed? Do rails seem to help? Ugh.

  • rails dont help me, but Orion comes straight to my bed, so im not sure what to do with a hallways sleeper. My parents just let us crash where ever we fell.

  • That will be my child...which is why I can't have anything really climable in her room once we make the transition. She's like a monkey.

We keep DD's door open at night so I was planning on putting a gate in her doorway. Won't keep her from sleeping on the floor, though.

  • Ugh! We also have a climber, hopefully the novelty will wear off soon.  It took a couple of weeks after B got her first taste of freedom for her to stay in her bed all night.  We made a big deal of praising her the mornings after when she did, not sure that helped much but I guess it didn't hurt.  We also gated the hallway so she could only had access to her room or ours, both of which were Bella-proofed. :)

Hang in there and hopefully she'll start staying in her bed all night!

  • okay...I'm sure you've done this and therefore this is a piece of unecessary advice but have you tried telling her that she is not to get out of bed but instead call for you and either you or DH will come and get her? This is our rule with Anna and she has yet to climb out of her BGB on her own. She's been in it for over a month and we've had great success with just telling her.

Like I said, I'm sure you've probably already done this but I thought I'd throw it out there just in case:)

We do this and all of the other suggestions as well. She's been in her toddler bed for almost two months now and all of this is a new development. We actually keep her bedroom door closed at night. If her door is open she won't stay in bed at all. She thinks it's time to play. I guess the thing that's driving me crazy is that we thought she had done so well with the transition and now, suddenly, she's doing all of this. It'll probably get better just as quickly as it got worse. I just wish there was something we could do. If only we could swaddle her still... :)

This worked for us too.  Good luck!

  • My friend's daughter who is just about 2 crawls out of bed and falls asleep in front of the door every single night. :( It sounds cute, but I can imagine it'd make getting in the room hard if the door opens inward!
