My FSIL's best friend just had her baby. She woke up and the baby wasn't there, and they said she was getting her hearing test. An hour or two passed, and she got worried. A nurse forgot to check the baby's bracelet, and took her to the wrong room. Another mom almost breast fed her before she realized it wasn't her baby! So the baby had to be tested for hepatitis and HIV, and they have to bring her back in 6 months to repeat the tests. Supposedly the baby didn't actually latch on before they noticed, but who knows if that's the whole story!
The hospital lawyers met with them--they are hoping maybe they won't get a bill!
Re: friend of FSIL's crazy hospital experience
OMG - I would raise 9 kinds of hell. I didn't think they could take the baby out of the room without your permission? DH went with Olivia for her hearing test.
Wow.
Sorry, but also how do you NOT recognize your own baby? Maybe I'm delusional, but I'd like to think that I'd be coherent enough to know that it's not my child.
Umm, heads would be rolling.
Our hospital's momma-baby wristbands will sound an alarm if the baby gets too close to an "incorrect" momma.
OMG!
Shoot, she not only needs to not have to pay for the hospital bill, she should get a lawyer of her own and get her kid's college tuition paid for, as well!!
Unacceptable. I'd also even consider calling the cops. Seriously.
Ditto.
Ours played a lullabye every time Maya got close to me so that I would know it was my baby.
This...how do you not know it's your child??? I would have raised holy hEll!
I can see it being possible, especially if you've just gotten the baby back from the nursery for the first time after birth, if you're just coming out of recovery from a c-section, etc.
Scary.
When I was on mag and getting morphine after my C, you could have given me a goldfish and told me it was my babies and I probably would have believed it though.
LMAO! New meaning to the fish lips latch.
