Scary Swaddle/Swing combo last night...

DS has been sleeping in his little lamb swing swaddled up for naps and bedtime because he has been sick and we know he will actually sleep while in it...well this morning (really early - 3amish) DH goes in to check on him because I thought I heard him crying and it sounded muffled. DH gets in there and he had rolled in the swing!!!  Not good.....scary!!  DS is back to the crib.....

  • Wasn't he buckled in?  YIkes, doesn't sound safe to me... How did he manage to roll?

  • This happened to my first son. We swaddled him and let him sleep in his swing at night because it was the only way he would sleep more than 2 hrs. One night we forgot to strap him in and he inched himself out of the swing and onto the floor! I woke up immediately. I was so worried I never put him in there to sleep again! Lol. Luckily we had soft carpet in his room and it was a very little drop.

    This.

I'm sorry, because I know it must've been a terrifying experience...but why wasn't he buckled in?

    Uh, same here.....

Glad he is o.k. though. Buckle him in next time!!

  • He wasnt buckled in because who knew he would be able to do that and he is swaddled - hard to buckle in if he is swaddled!!!  Freaking scary - glad I didnt see how he looked but DH said it was scary and tried to stay calm for LO's sake!!
  • i was told to NEVER let LO sleep for extended periods of time or to be left unattended in a swing because the position it puts the baby in can constrict or cut off their airway.

    Who told you that?

  • How do you buckle in a swaddled baby?

You just pull the straps around the outside of the blanket. The strap that goes between the legs keeps them secure.

This!  I was also told the same thing.  It is the reason that some newborns and almost all preemies have to pass a car seat test.  The position of the head can trim their oxygen level.  "Where does the baby sleep" is the first question my pedi always asks.

I have no problem letting LO take a nap in the swing, but I'm too nervous to let her sleep in the swing at night when I'm not watching.

This. Even if their legs are technically buckled it, its still better then nothing. We used to buckle Koen in that way when he was a newborn and being swaddled to be put in the swing.
