I've been EBF for 7 weeks. I pump too and DH gives him a bottle every night. LO is feeding well, we had some challenegs in the past, but we're doing well now (knock on wood). Anyway, I've been feeding him on demand and he wants to eat, on average, every 2 hours. Sometimes (rarely) he goes 2.5hrs, sometimes 1.5hrs. People have told me that he'll go longer in between feedings as he gets older... but WHEN?? I'm kind of starting to go a little nuts! He does go 4 hours between feedings at night, which is great!! I just want him to go a little longer during the day. He eats for about 25-30 mins per session - about 15mins one boob, 10-15 the other boob.
It's hard to plan things or go out sometimes. I'm getting out of the house though and feeding him in the backseat of the car or in a store dressing room...I'm not going to stay stuck at home! It's just difficult. When will it change? Or, will it change?
Thanks!
Re: When will he go longer then 2 hours?!?
I think it just depends on the kid. Kiddo was like that for a LONG time. Sometimes, he just want to nurse for seemingly no reason. It was important for me to nurse on demand as much as possible, so I decided to get comfortable with NIP - a ring sling is a fabulous solution for that.
Once he starts getting more aware of the world, he's likely to get distracted when you are out and won't be interested in eating - that's generally around 4 months or so.
