Babies: 9 - 12 Months

DD only eats Cheerios!

Has anyone else had this experience?  DD has never been much of a puree eater.  The most I've ever gotten her to eat is 1/2 a jar of stage 1 foods.  I've made fresh foods and it doesn't seem to make a big difference.  Lately she refuses purees entirely.

She will open her mouth for Cheerios and the tiniest bits of bananas or avocados (like 1/8 the size of a Cheerio).  However, she will frequently make herself vomit from banana and avocado bits (sort of like gagging till she vomits if the food hits the wrong part of her mouth).

But she will never turn down a Cheerio!  Any suggestions on how I can get her to eat something else or ideas for another food she can handle?

  • DS eats other stuff but cheerios and puffs are his favorate. Have you talked to her pedi yet, he might have some sugestions. Also maybe try puffs and yogart melts, DS would eat those all day if we let him! GL!

  • My DD never really liked puree (it is a texture thing). Starting about 8 1/2 months we started just smashing her food and giving her small bits. We also found out that she wanted to get off a metal spoon, like us. You could try pasta, cooked apples, sweet potatoes, and peas. DD also always ate the things we were eating better. Hope this helps, good luck.

  • Why don't you try baby led weaning (BLW)? It is great for babies that don't like purees and actually reduces the risk of choking since the baby is in control of what goes into their mouth.
