Just a quick FYI/reminder: Internet safety

Hey all...

In light of some events that have been happening on other boards, I thought I should post a friendly reminder about protecting your personal information online. I know we've all made friends here that we trust with our personal information, but remember that sometimes there are truly BSC people lurking in the shadows.

Things like where you work (especially if you bump from work), real names, etc can be dangerous to share not just for the stalker factor, but because honestly there are some lunatics out there that want to harass and cause problems for those that they've encountered over the internet.

I know it should go without saying, but since there seems to be an influx of crazy lately, I thought a reminder was in order.

    One more thing-- If you google your screen name, it's easy to find old posts of yours. If you do some searching and include identifying details (i.e. screen name + "work") and find anything you don't want floating around out there, you can edit the post to remove the identifying information.

    If you need help editing a post that you've found, feel free to PM me and I can help you edit out the information.

    No, other than editing your own posts.  There's no way you can prevent what google brings up unless you edit your own posts.

    Hi ladies, I do not belong here, so pardon my pop in, pop out post.

    I just wanted to say that after you edit your posts, you need to go to google and have the post removed by them if it was cached. I had a stalker here under another SN and just went through this process. Even though there is not a single "active" post on the bump or nest under my old SN, I was able to google my SN and find old posts that were essentially screen shots of posts that no longer existed. 

    If there is a web link in the search that has (cached) next to it, that means editing will do no good and you need to have google correct it.

    Here is the link to have google correct it. All my correction requests were granted within 24 hours....

    ok butting out, and I am sorry that you all are on security lock down too, I know first hand how much of a PITA it can be.
