TTC After a Loss

Sex before OB appointment?

I am ovulating today.

We had sex yesterday, today, and were planning on having sex tomorrow morning before DH leaves to go out of town for a couple days (at like 6:30 am).

I have an appointment with the OB at 9:30 though.  I've always heard "nothing in the vagina 24 hours before an OB appointment" - do you think that rule still applies when you're TTC, and discussing TTTC with your OB?

Re: Sex before OB appointment?

  • Are they doing an exam for sure? If so, I would say no. Might be a little awkward having some baby batter up in there while the OB is checking the lady bits out!

  • I've never heard that rule, and I doubt she hasn't seen it (and much much worse) before.  If its critical for your timing I say go for it.

  • Are you having a pap smear? I believe the reasoning behind that rule is because it can make your pap come up abnormal. Then you have a painful biopsy done for nothing.

I'm due for a pap, but I can always put that off for a month or two.

  • Then by all means, my friend, put off the pap smear and do it to it! Maybe you'll get a BFP and can just have the pap done at your first prenatal visit!

This!  If they are going to do a pap, then I would let them know that you had sex this morning and see if you can go back at another time to complete the exam.  GL :)

This.  The reasoning behind it is because it can mess with the results of your pap.  If you decide to BD, just make sure you tell your OB so they can reschedule the pap for another time if he/she thinks it's necesary. :)

  • I've heard that rule when getting a pap, but not really for a regular appt.
