Talk to me about birth control

I am almost out of the mini pill and am looking at changing to some other method.  My research revealed that pretty much all hormonal bc interferes with implantation, although most have their main effectiveness earlier.  I view life as starting at fertilization and am okay messing with reproduction before then, but not after.  I want a method that is consistent with this.  Ideas?  Thanks!

    Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I've always thought that being on the pill prevents ovulation, which would mean that you wouldn't even get to the stage of implantation.

    Am I wrong?

    Regular birth control pills work by 1. preventing ovulation 2. Inhibiting implantation.  Mini pills work by 1. Inhibiting implantation 2. Preventing ovulation.  Your chances of ovulating on regular pills is very low.  Your chance of ovulating on progesterone only pills is much higher.

    Most of the IUDs work by inhibiting implantation as well.

    You could use condoms (male or female), a cervical cap, diaphragm, natural family planning, spermicide, sponge, sterilization, or withdrawal. Some are more effective than others.

    Depoprevera, IUDs, Implanon, oral contraceptives (including the mini-pill), Ortho-Evera, and the Nuva Ring will all prevent implantation of a fertilized egg. This is really something you ought to speak with your doctor about.

    Birth control pills work in a number of ways. They prevent ovulation (most of the time), increase cervical mucus (making it harder for sperm to reach an egg if one is released), and thin the lining of the uterus (preventing implantation). I believe that only combination pills prevent ovulation but I'm not positive.

    TMI WARNING- unless you care to know what we use, stop reading.

     

     

     

     

     

    We use condoms, spermicide gel (it has an applicator), don't have sex when I am "fertile" most of the time (or we pull out if we do it on the fertile time). We don't rely on just one thing. We use all three together. We are not taking much in the way of chances.

    (um, but I have been pukey for three days now)
