DH is freaking out about the damn carseat (vent)

Ugh I'm so annoyed with my DH right now.  First of all, he's not handy, and rarely does he do any handy man stuff around the house.  I've known this forever about him, so it usually doesn't bother me, but what does piss me off is when he tries to do something himself, puts in a half-ass effort (think like 10 minutes of trying) and then throws his hands up in the air, says there is no way he's going to be able to do it, and I need to "help him" - IE do it for him.  I would be totally down with helping him if he actually wanted help, but what he wants is to just not deal with it anymore at all and have me figure it out for him.  I really hate it!

Anyhoo, he tried to install the carseat today, and then proceeded to tell me it's too loose.  "he tried everything he could think of" so now I need to help him.  (by the way, he wasn't just asking for my help - he was informing me in a very loud tone that if this is going to get done, it's up to me, and if I don't figure it out, I guess LO won't have a ride home from the hospital) Yeah, so I'm going to haul my 8 months pregnant belly out to the car and lean over and tighten the dang thing when he couldn't even do it.

I guess my question is, if I take it to one of those car seat safety checks at the fire station or whatever, will they just tell me if it fails, or will they actually help install it?

  • I think they will help install it.  Especially if you go by yourself all pregnant and sad like.. Men like to be heroes Big Smile

  • They will help you install it.

The trick is to have your DH put his knee on the seat and put all of his weight on it.... While doing that tighten the seatbelt.  When he lets go with his knee, it'll be super tight.

  • they will install it for you and show your dh or you how to do it.  Dh isn't handy either and he wasn't sure if he had it right... no big deal, they showed him how to do it and were very helpful.

  • I went in and just asked them to install it for me and they did and showed me how.
  • They will install it. We also have a program at our hospital (Baby's First Ride) and the tech did it for us. I just scheduled a time while I was there for delivery.
  • Our program is called safety for kids I think. They installed ours for me at the EMS station. It was kinda hard to get the carseat tight in DH's car, but I understand what you mean. I put the whole nursery together by myself.

  • I dont think all firestations do it, but you can find an inspection station here

  • They'll help install it.  However, if I were you, I'd make DH go there and explain just why he can't do it.  Maybe it'll help him man up - NFN, but installing a car seat isn't much of a "handy-man" task, it's not really difficult at all...

  • They will help you install it. At least they did for me. I installed it myself then took it down for them to check. She took it out a couple of times to show me some stuff and then installed it for me.
