DH met with his lawyer on Friday. APPARENTLY health insurance only "counts" if the cost is being taken directly from DHs paycheck. So since the insurance is incredibly cheaper through my employer, it doesn't count. wtf?? The state views it as we are not providing insurance, so on top of the cs DH has to pay BM cash medical support. (This is the big reason for the large increase) Then for any out of pocket medical expenses, we pay 2/3 and she pays 1/3. So basically by the time he pays her, she's paying nothing for medical. Fine. Whatever. Then just say she pays nothing and leave it at that. I don't get why she is getting paid for not providing her child health insurance. I work for out insurance company, so our premiums are super cheap. We are going to be paying BM double each month what comes out of my paycheck for our entire family. Iowa really sucks....

Re: Iowa sucks (cs update)
I agree with PP.
Sorry that sucks for you guys! GL!
I don't get this, nor will I ever understand CS and their reasonings... Just a thought - and I could be totally wrong, but didn't it take your DH AND BM to create this child???? Yup, it did - thats what I thought. So why the F does the father have to pay 2/3... It should be EQUAL. So sick and tired of the one parent getting off easy and the other one struggles. They BOTH created the child, they BOTH need to provide for it.
HA! They told me I have to provide the medical insurance and any uninsured medical expenses are 68% Me, 32% him. Biodad only has my DD every other weekend and pays $322/mo in child support. Not exactly even if you ask me. She eats that in food alone! lol
seriously? thats more than our monthly bill for the whole FAMILY.
OP, I am sorry Iowa is so screwed up
It really makes no sense! Whether it comes from his check or not, its obviously still being provided. Is there no way to dispute/overturn that?!
It's the same here. We have DS on DH's insurance and his biodad only pays $245/mo in child support. I have to cover the first $300 a year in uncovered medical expenses and then BD has to pay 1/2. Not anywhere near even, he also has DS EOW.
LOL, ok maybe that's a slight exaggeration
Our monthly grocery bill, not including eating out, or things like diapers, laundry stuff, etc...Just basic food is roughly $600/mo. I guess DD doesn't eat half of it
But for as skinny as she is man, she can pack it in! LOL
I was just trying to show how UNEVEN the expenses are divided between her father and I. It's even more uneven now since he has decided not to pay in almost 6 mos. To him, no income withholding order=no obligation to pay..
Wow. That's honestly ridiculous. I'll never understand it. You're really at the whim of whatever judge you end up with and at this point, I've lost almost ALL my faith in the justice system. I'm looking forward to court this Nov though because the judge guaranteed a change and agreed that BM needs to do SOMETHING to support her kids. As of right now, she refuses to work (but travels and enters beauty pageants apparently LOL!)
We pay almost $2,400/month for my 13 and 17yr old SS's, DH provides the health and dental insurance and it's supposed to be 50/50 for out of pocket expenses (granted there's hardly ever any OOP expenses because we're military but a certain amount DOES come out of DH's pay each pay period for medical/dental for our family) but when she gets a little more than DOUBLE in CS what she should be getting and she refuses to work, she isn't providing much in my eyes. She's relying on DH 110% to care for kids she helped create. (Mind you, she worked when DH and her divorced and then just decided the month the divorce was final that she didn't need to work anymore because of "health issues" - right.)
I'm frustrated for you, girl - it's ridiculous!
When you put it that way it seems pretty fair, and that is basically how it is done here as well.
If they don't look at household income (so including SP's income) they cannot really take into consideration what is paid out by the SP either. It sounds like the court acknowledges only the expenses of those whose incomes are being considered-which makes sense.
Unless, they are actually saying, you are not providing health insurance and have to provide a separate policy then it all sort of works out in the end.
That is just dumb. If the insurance companies allow us and recognizes Sks under our policy then duh he is covered. It shouldn't matter that he is under your policy. Insurance is being provided. How @$$backwards. This would piss me off!
