Babies: 0 - 3 Months

What do you do with your 3 wk old baby while awake?

I always feel like I should be playing with her, but she is so little and doesn't really react to anything. I talk to her a lot and sing sometimes, but she likes to stare at the curtains. Any suggestions? Around what age do they start to interact?

  • I am doing what you are doing
  • Loading the player...
  • Pathetically, I say "HI!!" over and over...

  • I try to do a little tummy time with DD when she is awake, I also talk or sing to her.  She has recently gotten fussy when she is awake if she is laying down, it seems like she wants to sit up and look around so I hold her sitting up so she can do that (her new favorite thing is the moving ceiling fan!)

  • Mine is almost 4 weeks and in the last week I have noticed she grabs at more (like my hair..necklace, earrings, ect) so I have started to let her play on her playmat with the hanging things and she watches her mobile in her swing.  I shake rattles and toys, but she doesn't really care.  And in the last few days she has seemed to fall in love with her seahorse (which she was freaking out with before).

In the morning we "chat" while I drink my coffee and get up/dressed ect.  And she LOVES youtube music. ;-)

  • Mine LO is grabbing at clothes and fingers so I hold a rattle within her reach and maneuver it into her hand. Then I shake it a bit when she closes her fingers around the handle. She seems bemused by this so I keep doing it. Other than that, anything with my voice. Talking to her, singing to her. When I study for my classes and read from the textbooks I do it aloud so she can hear my voice.

Hehe I do this too.. but sometimes mix it up with a "what're you doin'??" or "hey handsome fella" or something like that.  Sometimes we do tummy time.

  • a mixture of the previous posters....tummy time, talking, walking around the house in a sling while i do a few things...she's usually not up for too long. and then she gets time with her papi too.

    HAHA, me too! :)

I talk to LO, play music, let him lay down on a blanket while he stretches and coos and I talk to him, do tummy time, put him on the playmat, read to him, or put him in the Moby and walk around showing him things.

This was me. Until I decided to sing songs, read books and lay with him on his play mat (well, him on it and me next to it). I figured that he might not get much out of it just yet, but there's no harm!

We also go for walks a lot.
