POLL: If you could choose...

(as if we ever have a choice)

Which would you prefer your newborn/baby to do:

1) Sleep in bassinet during the day, cosleep at night.

2) Sleep while being held during the day, bassinet at night.

For argument's sake, they sleep the same length stretches either way.

DS slept in the bassinet at night no problem for the past week and then all of a sudden decided he wouldn't.  BUT he sleeps in there during the day most of the time and he sleeps the same cosleeping.

I loved cosleeping with DD, but got used to having a king bed in MD.  We have a queen here (we used it for the first 6 months of DD's life) and we can't fit a king so I feel more cramped this time around.  Either way I'm grateful that he sleeps pretty dang well.  Just curious to know how others feel about one vs. the other.

  • My ideal would be bassinet in the daytime and a combo of bassinet and co-sleeping at night.

I don't sleep that well with C in the bed so I only like to bring her into bed in the morning when I'm only dozing anyway.

  • I'd rather he slept in the bassinet at night. I need my sleep and I don't sleep well if I cosleep.
  • Bassinet during the day.  I'm lazy & bedsharing at night saved my sanity while nursing.

  • option 2.  i can't co-sleep, i have night terrors.  but, i would get myself set up on the couch with the laptop and a snack, and hold DS while he napped.  i could pay bills and respond to emails and snuggle my baby.  i just took care of other chores after he went to bed at night.
  • 1 is exactly what we did except exchange bassinet with moses basket out in the room with me and ds. I missed my bed but wanted the sleep more - we got her into the crib for both about a month ago.

  • Option 1.   DS slept with us about half the night and in the cosleeper the other half, and I put him in the cosleeper for naps...I think he got his fair share of being held through naps too..

    I missed co-sleeping for a long time...

  • For me, lack of sleep equals a bad/grumpy/no fun mommy. So I am happy with LO sleeping in crib. I also believe in consistency - so naps and bedtime in crib.

On the weekends we sometimes take a first nap together in our bed - he doesn't sleep as soundly and neither do I - but we both enjoy the closeness.
