Sleeping Arrangements question

If you didnt have much of an income. Would you plan on living in a better neighborhood but have yougest dc stay in your room at least till at 2 or 3, and older dc have his own room.

Or would you get a bigger place in a nastier part of town so each child could have a room.

I dont think a 10yr old boy and a 1yr old girl really need to share a room. His toys alone are a serious hazard to her life even when put away.

Re: Sleeping Arrangements question

  • Ugh tough.

I'm not a co-sleeper and it wouldn't work for our marriage. Having said that, obviously nicer/safer neighborhood is most desired.

I'd keep searching until I could find 3 bedrooms or 2 bedrooms with an area that could be converted to a bedroom. Even if it is teeny tiny.

  • We still bed-share but dd is working slowly on moving onto her own bed, which is on the floor so she can't roll off in the middle of the night.

I agree. It seems like it doesn't have to be either/or. Get a good realtor, take some time to look around and you may be pleasantly surprised.

  • I hope you can find a place in a good neighborhood with 2.5-3 bedrooms :-)

That is a really tough decision!

  • Sadly dh works in the bay area and they are thinking of moving the company he just started with to a location even farther away from where we live now. Its super expensive to live in even a half decent neighborhood and have more than 900sq ft for 4 people to be living in. Heck finding a place with garage space so we can get rid of storage is almost unheard of.

UGH, why couldnt he find a job north and not south of us.

  • Are you looking to buy or rent?  If you're renting, any chance that there's some income restricted or housing assistance you'd qualify for?  When we moved up here, we were at a income restricted apt for a few years before we bought our house - all things considered, it was very nice, and I believe they accepted Section 8 vouchers, etc - I know that can be a complicated road, but maybe that will get you something in a safer neighborhood?

  • I am in a similar situation.

We are planning on staying in a small one bedroom and sharing a room with the baby for a year or two until we can sell our place or afford a place in the neighborhood that we want.  Neighborhoods are VERY important to me.
