I went in yesterday morning for my scheduled c/section. Arrived at 5:30, got through registration (all done in advance so basically I just picked up my bracelet), and then went up to L&D where they got me into a gown and put an IV in before 6:00. They then pumped a bag of fluids into me before the surgery (6-7am for the fluid drip), and at 7, the anaesthesiologist (great guy!) came by to introduce himself. They prepped dh and I for the surgery, and took me down to the L&D OR. I got my spinal, and got placed on the table and the curtain went up. My OB came in at 7:36, finished the prep, and a few minutes later I heard him say "she's almost here." I asked if they were cutting and super-nice anaesthesiologist said no, that's already done. She was out at 7:55! They took another 20 minutes for my tubal and tucking parts back in, and I got to the recovery room at 9:20.
The surgery went really well and I've recoverd tremendously - I was out walking laps around the Maternity floor, pushing DD in her bassinette this afternoon, and I'm going home (yay!) tomorrow morning. However, the drug they used for my spinal includes morphine and it turns out that I don't tolerate that well, so I spent between 10 and 2 vomiting copious amounts of basically sugar water (the bags they put through the IV get processed through your stomach). Fortunately, I didn't feel sick all the time, I would just feel suddenly strange and then it would come up. It turns out that's a very common side effect, and if I ever have a spinal again, I'll know to ask for the anti-nausea drug before it's too late. Anyway, it didn't stop me looking after DD, and all is now working really well.
Libby is 19.5 inches long and 6.14 lbs. She's nursing for 2 hours on, then sleeps for 4 hours. In the middle of a nursing cycle, it's hard work, but the 4 hour naps are nice! I'll try to upload a photo to my siggy.
Anyway, just wanted to wish you all luck with your births. If anyone has any questions about a scheduled c/section, I'd be happy to try and answer.
Re: Libby is here!
Oh I am so happy for you!! Congratulations!!!
You mentioned the nausea- I had an epidural years ago when I had my cancer surgery and it caused me to have serious vomiting afterwards! I will remid my doc to note my chart that I may need anti-nausea meds as well.
Can't wait to see Libby!!!
Congratulations! Thank you for sharing your story. I can't wait to see photos!
Congrats! I'm glad to hear you are doing so well after your c/s.
Can't wait to see a pic of Libby!!
Congrats on your precious girl. Also can't wait to see pictures! Glad things went so well for you and Libby! I hope my C-section in May goes that well, too.
