We had ours done when he was 10 days old. I was going to get announcements cards made on Etsy or Tinyprints, but our photographer does them as well and we figured it would be easier.

Most photographers will tell you that they should be done in the first 12 days (when they're still sleepy). We did ours at 12, and we are using them for the announcements.
We did ours at 3 and 4 days old. Our photographer is also our friend, and she came to the house. She likes to capture newborns when they're still curled up. She did an amazing job!!
