So DH had his SA test done through Quest and they came back very low. The urologist said it might be because they sat for a while before being tested but she said from the looks of it, the only way we will be able to get pregnant is by IVF. So we are going to schedule an appt to go to a local Fertility clinic to see what they can do for us. How long does this normally take to get started once you meet with them? Is there anything that I need to know or should ask before/when we go? This is the beginning of a long stressful process I'm sure but I have seem several success stories on here through IVF so I am staying positive and hopeful. Any suggestions and/or tips are greatly appreciated. I feel like I don't even know where to start.

Re: SA results are in and they are not good
I would think they'd want your DH to do a repeat SA again in a month or so, just to see if the first results were a fluke (especially if there is a question about how long the sample sat before being tested??).
DH's first SA came back with abnormal liquifaction time, but in his repeat SA everything was ok. Hopefully that's the case for you too!
Either way it's probably a good idea to go to a fertility clinic. They may want to do further testing before starting any kind of treatment anyway.
Good luck!
DX: High FSH/DOR
It took 44 cycles, just over 3 years, 6 failed IUI's in MI, and 1 round of IVF at CCRM to get our BFP!
Beta #1 (9dp5dt) = 206, Beta #2 (11dp5dt) = 438
1st u/s @ 6w5d = 11/11/11 = ONE little bean! HB 120bpm!

What about the SA was abnormal? count? motility or morph?
Once I met with the RE, I was started on clomid with my next cycle. My DH saw a urologist for low count and an infection and was started on treatment immediately.
Be Positive and GL
The results that she circled and were concerned about was the volume was 3.0, the spermatazoa was 2.4 and motility was onyl 1%. Now that I look at the results it says the report was comlpeted on 2/18/2010 @ 2:46pm but the specimen was collected on 2/17/2010. Does that mean it sat a whole day before being reviewed? That could be way everything is so low. DH wanted to try a place that was covered by our insurance and that he could do at home before diving right in and having to go to a lab to do it but maybe our results are low because of that, STAYING POSITIVE
Hopefully another test will show better numbers.
Whoa - yes if it sat for an entire day those results are way off I'm sure. My RE likes the sample there no later than 1 HOUR after collection! I would find out how long they sat and move forward from there.
He'll need to do a repeat SA anyway (after 6-8 weeks) - they always do at least 2 to confirm abnormalities. They should also do blood tests - I know they check hormone levels and I forget what else. If his 2nd sample shows low numbers also you'll want to see a Urologist before deciding what next steps to take. They will check to see if there is a physical problem that could be causing the issues. It will probably take a few months before you know what your next step will be.
GL!
I'm right there with you. We just had our first appt with the RE. They wanted another SA for their records, also because they do more testing on it than a regular urologist.
Good luck!
I agree with everyone else--you'll need to have a 2nd sample submitted. Did the first lab use Krueger's strict morphology? I think it's great that you're going to an RE for a work up. I think once you meet with your RE, things will probably move quickly. Have you had any tests done on yourself? Good luck to you!
Me: Oligomenorrhea (workup for PCOS turned out to be negative)
DH: 1st SA 11/09: good volume but only 20% normal
Cycle #1: Clomid 50mg=No O
1/10 2nd SA (this time at the fertility clinic): PERFECT!!!
1/10 My Tests: HSG All clear! B/W is normal!
2/10 Started Acupuncture
Cycle #2: 100 mg Clomid CD4-CD8 trigger TI Progesterone=BFN
Cycle #3: 100 mg Clomid CD3-CD7 trigger TI Progesterone=BFP!
Beta 1=144 Beta 2=359 Beta 3=637
My Scrambled Eggs
Surprise BFP January 2012!
besides the fact that labcorp/quest SA's are notoriously inaccurate, because they're computerized. You want to have a SA done that is done by hand, not by machine.
Good luck with your repeat SA.
