Baby Names

Virginia?

What do you think of Virginia?  It is my grandmother's name and my DH's grandmother's middle name.  I am a little torn.  I love Ginny as a nn too.  WDYT?  Middle name Marie after my SIL.

Re: Virginia?

  • LOVE it! Especially since it has family significance. It would be on my short list if we didn't live in VA.

And you can't go wrong with Marie. That's my middle name and I always joke with DH that Marie goes well with everything.

  • I think the name is making a comeback, and if it's a family name on both sides I say go for it!

  • Love it!  I have an aunt named "Mary Virginia" and she always went by "Gin".   It work well for both a child and an adult.

  • I am the crazy type who always thinks of "will this name make it easy to mock my child?" so Virginia is clearly one of those names, ie Virgin, etc, If you are OK with that, it's very pretty and I like it. Of course I know the kids can always think of something, but why make it so easy?

  • I'm a "Ginny" but not a Virginia.  I like my name and have only met a couple other Ginny's.  Go for it!
  • I love it!  It is my mom's eact name - Virginia Marie.  She goes by Ginger though.  I would love to name a duaghter after her one day!

  • Very pretty.  Love the nn Ginny.

  • I like it. It's nice to honor someone with a name. It means that much more to you then. DH and I have choices that honor people, as well.

  • My name is Virginia.  I have mixed feelings about it, but DH loves it and wants to name one of our DD after me.  I was named after my grandmother.  Many people called her Gin or Ginny.  I go by Ginger 99% of the time.  A few people call me Gin though.

And yes, I did get teased when people found out it was my real name when I was little.  (Many people never knew and think Ginger is my legal name.)

    BTW, I say go for it...but I guess I'm a little bias.

  • I LOVE it! Its my grandmother's and aunt's name. Only they're both Virginia Mary. And hardcore Catholic. Virgin Mary anyone?

  • My grandma's name was Virginia too. I like it and was thinking I might use it as a middle name some day for my future children.

  • I love Virginia. My great aunt is Virginia Mae. So pretty!

  • Love the name Virginia.  It's beautiful and will age well.
  • I love both Ginny and Ginger- not a huge fan of Virginia, but my opinion is leaning in it's favor because it has family significance to you.

  • I like Virginia. Ginny is nms, but I like the way it works with the name.
    Blank!
  • It's ok. Sounds dated to me, but that's probably because my mom is friends with a Virginia and she's the only one I've ever known.
  • Beautiful and not too trendy!

  • My grandma was Virginia, and her husband called her Ginny. Everyone else called her Virginia. Great classic name!
