Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Do steroids give you energy?

Pedi gave DS a steroid and I gave it to him when we got home-- He missed his afternoon nap so I thought for sure he would be in bed by now-- even with the nap he would be in bed by now--

DS is like bouncing off the walls right now!

Re: Do steroids give you energy?

  • Yes.  DD was on steroid treatments for asthma when she was little and it was like crazy time.
  • I think roid rage might be right-- he is crazy-- and yet tired-- but he will not settle down.
  • Yes, but it's a strange energy.  For me it was like I was crawling out of my skin.  It can lead to irritability because it's not really such a great feeling.  Our pedi warned of this when DS got a dose of prednisone once.

  • It would have been nice to have a warning before I gave him this before bed.
  • Usually we try to have parents give the dose in the AM.  Your LO probably needed the dose though!! Maybe tomorrow you can start fresh and give the dose in the AM.
  • I DEFINITELY will be giving it in the morning tomorrow.  This is crazy!  He won't play because he is so tired, he won't let me rock him, he won't lay in crib---

This.  I've been on 60mg a day of prednisone for the past 2 weeks or so now and I'm going INSANE.  The first few days were nice rush of energy I hadn't felt since before pregnancy and now it's just screwing with my entire body. It sucks, but I can't get off them b/c of my low platelets. :(

Sorry :(  I was on them for months at one point so I know the feeling all to well unfortunately.

wow months? I'm so sorry, too! That has got to suck! I was so hoping to get off them after a week, but instead I got my dose upped :( I'm hoping I have weeks and not months, but it doesn't look good so I could be right along with you soon :(
