1st Trimester

My mom...

DH and I told our parents last week (they are the only people that know right now -- besides my mom's neighbor and good friend, who is a nurse, and will indulge all my crazy questions Stick out tongue)

My mom told me that she went to Macy's and bought baby clothes ! She said she couldn't stop herself... it was like her car developed Toyota-like problems and wouldn't stop until it got to the mall. This is the first grandkid and we've been married for a while, so I think she's really, really, really excited.

It's cute.

  • That is really cute! She's just excited! My mom tried to do the same thing. I kinda got nasty about it at the beginning, since I just didn't know what was going to happen. I've finally relented in the past couple of weeks, and she's already gone nuts! I keep telling her to wait till we find out the gender, but she's one track minded right now...GRANDBABY!!

  • My mom already cleaned out Macy's infant Christmas clearance...everything for Baby's 1st Christmas.  I know she's bought a ton of other things too, but hasn't told me because she's afraid my DH will feel like she's trying to out do MIL.  My DH couldn't care less about what my mom buys but I know my MIL would!  Let the grandmother wars begin!
  • Smile It's very adorable!

My mom went out and bought some classical music for the baby Smile It's meant to be used while the baby's still in my belly. I thought it was so adorable.

It's nice when mothers are excited about their new grandchildren.

  • That is really cute. It's fun when your parents get excited!

My mom's reaction to our news: "We have to throw a shower!"

    Me: "Mom, I'm four weeks."

  • these posts make me feel better.  we decided the other day to tell my parents tomorrow...up until we decided this I was soooo excited to tell my mom and dad....now that we've decided I'm super nervous.  I'm 99% sure they are going to be over-the-moon excited, but I have nagging fears that they're going to disapprove or something stupid like that...

  • That is to funny Let the grandmother wars begin
  • My mom's the same way! She is so excited to start shopping for Baby...she just bought me a bunch of maternity clothes too. She is waaayy excited for me to start showing obviously! LOL
  • Im so not looking forward to buying new mat clothes goodness , its been 5 years so I have none left LOL , and baby stuff well hope the inlaws and my family start and dont stop making those baby purchases we need EVERYTHING again hehe !!! were superstitious I dont buy or take any gifts until 1st trimester is behind us, but caught myself looking at baby stuff in gap window the other day shook my head and told myself its too soon and kept it moving =)
  • Keep counting your blessings that you have a mom to do these things.  My mom passed away 10 years ago Monday.  My best friend (a little older) and mother in law have taken over this job, though!  My best friend bought the cutest Christmas stuff at the post-Christmas sales (an adorable girl and boy outfit) and it's been so much fun!  I don't mind at all, appreciate all the help we'll get!  Excited to probably have a few showers (had 5 wedding showers, including bachelorette party!) to give us a great start, too!
  • My mom has that problem too and she doesn't even drive a Toyota! She texted me last night to let me know that her and a friend are going to Babies R Us today (she lives an hour away from it).

She's also guilty of "Oh I bought you the cutest little thing! Oh well I won't tell you about it right now, I'll send it in your care package. It's not exactly gender neutral... but it's SO CUTE YOU'LL LOVE IT!"

The mother-in-law isn't quite as bad. When we told her we were pregnant this time she squealed and mentioned that she had a "stash" built up, but she doesn't send bi-weekly care packages like my mom does.

In their defense though, we're 6 hours away from them.

  • That's really sweet. This will be my first baby, but my mother's 5th grandchild and my MIL's 15th grandchild. We haven't told our parents yet - but I'm not expecting them to be nearly as excited and "shopping happy" as they were for the first few grandchildren. Kind of sad - but totally understandable.
