Reassure me about gender u/s

I know I'm crazy! Logically I know they are generally very accurate, but I'm still stressed that the little girl I was told I'm having is going to be a boy. Not that I would mind at all, but I'm a huge planner (and dislike surprises) and am going all out on the girly pink nursery, etc. It would really blindside me to find out at birth it's a boy. This happened in our family once and it doesn't help that my MIL keeps reminding me of it and telling me I should have a boy name as a backup, etc (plus, there are NO girls in the family, so it seems too good to be true). Gah. I think the reason I'm dragging my feet on painting and ordering nursery items is this niggling feeling in the back of my head. I just can't get invested the way I want to.

Anyhow, I'm just looking for some reassurance. I was told (and saw) that there were the 3 lines on the 20 week u/s and the tech seemed quite sure. But unless there is an issue, I won't be having another u/s. I've been considering paying for a 3D one, but they are typically "touchy feely" with all kinds of bells and whistles and I just want the sex confirmation. And DH thinks I'm nuts to worry so much.

A girl in my childbirth class was told she was having a girl, bought all the pink frilly stuff, painted the room pink, etc... Had an ultrasound at 37w and discovered that it is almost definitely a boy! So, sorry, they are right most of the time, but no guarantees.

I felt the same way after our big u/s. I was sooo sure that I was having a girl and even after the tech showed me out little man's boy parts 3 times I still had doubts. Look up ultrasound pics on google or something to compair what you saw. that is what eventually made me relax and agree that I was indeed having a boy

I would definitely not go by what they may tell you at a 3D place, they are not trained the same way the technicians are in medical facilities. I was told I was having girl by one of those places with my son and they were obviously wrong.

As long as you are willing to pay a little extra $ for peace of mind, why not just go back to the place you had your 20 week scan?

I don't know about you but I knew all along I was having a boy. It wasn't until I started washing his clothes that I got afraid a girl could come out. Mother's intuition is pretty strong and some of those fun, odd old wives tales can ring true too. My 19wk U/S showed a little boy part. Because I had placenta previa they did an internal U/S with a wand and showed us his scrotum and such. But it still worries me a little bit because I'm one of four girls and he's one of four boys. LOL so it could go either way technically.

Decorate your baby's nursery to your liking. Your the mother. And if you recieve a surprise you'll have a funny story to tell. Good luck

A friend of mine was told she was having a girl. She had the name picked out, nursery decorated all girly and all her clothes from her baby shower washed. Then she went in for her 37 week appointment and had another u/s and was told she was most definitely having a boy. It's not 100% accurate, so mistakes can happen.

Haha, I think about this all the time too. We have been told it is a boy and we have gone all out with Blue everything! I keep thinking 'what if' but I'm just going to ignore it, if it happens to be a girl, I will deal with that at the time. I do feel safer that he is a boy though, it just seems to me a boy is more easily recognizable in an u/s...whereas a girl could be a boy who's parts aren't showing?? I'm sure they are better at looking at them than that but that's how I see it!

If you're that worried about it, there are 3D ultrasounds you can get just for the confirmation of the sex. They're typically pretty quick and inexpensive.

I'm sure the ultrasound was accurate, but have you thought about having an elective ultrasound to put your mind at ease? I had one and it was only $85.

IMO-- get the 3/d if you're this worried about it. If all you want is gender confirmation, tell them that-- you're paying them, so they'll probably do what you ask them. I didn't think mine was 'touchy-feely' either-- our tech was extremely high-spirited and fun. You might be surprised, and more interested in those images than you think.

The two 3D scanning centers near me both have 'Gender Packages' which cut out all the bells and whistles.

I wish I could reassure you, but I still have the same "fears" and I have had five ultrasounds! Three of them were medical (besides the 20 week one, the other two the tech kinda just glanced and said 'yeah, 3 lines,') and the other two were 3d. My 3d tech was pretty sure and said he has only been wrong once, and I have pictures to compare to ones I see on the internet. I say get one of those gender checks if you want.

I'm washing all of the 0-3 months clothes today and got this feeling inside of me like uh oh..what if she is a he. I'm sure its normal to feel like that especially if you have had it happen in your family. I wouldn't worry about it though, if they saw the 3 lines and told you they did then it is a girl. They know what they are doing (hopefully) and have done this many times and know what to compare it to. Like someone else said..you'll have a funny story to tell your son someday if it is a boy. Wouldn't be the end of the world to have to redo the nursery...just expensive. :-)

I'm in the same boat you are! This is only the 2nd girl in DH's family & the 1st in mine. Dh has 6 nephews & the 1st niece is only 4 months old! It doesn't help that ppl always have stories where this has happened to someone they know. I guess we just have to keep our fingers crossed til the day we know for sure. GL!

At our 20 week ultrasound, the tech was about 95% sure that it was a girl. I was worried about that 5% chance that she was wrong! I found a clinic that does regular 2D ultrasounds (along with 3D ones) for about $60. So we went and got confirmation that it is a girl! You might want to see if there's something like that around you, it's worth the peace of mind!

I can see where you are coming from. We're having a boy and it is definitely a boy! Easier to tell with boys though since you can't miss that something extra! I would probably have the same thoughts as you if we were having a girl. Can you see if your doc can do an u/s? Do they plan on doing anymore? I'm sure they're right. This is what the techs do for a living so hopefully they are correct!

i think either way it be wrong . . i was watching baby center and they thought they were have twin boys and it ended up being twin girls. . they hare the entire room decorated and everything with the names on the wall and everything had to be changed and exchanged and everything. .

nothing is full proof and everything. if you need a piece of mind, then you can def go to get another confirmation or something .

I'd say that go get the confirmation u/s just so you can enjoy the remaining what could be 3 months of your pregnancy w/o so much worry
