Keyfit 30 anyone?

I have the Cortina Travel System w/ the Keyfit 30 and put it in the car this morning so I could take it to the firestation and have it installed...the darn thing is huge...I'm talkin the person in the passenger seat is gonna have to sit straight up...please tell me that when it's installed it'll be better...DH is 6'3" and this means that he'll have to drive everywhere we go in my car...he always has the seat all the way back...

  • Depending on the type of car you have, you may be able to put the carseat in the center.  Check your owner's manual.  If we didn't have our seat in the middle, our passenger seat would be just as you described.

  • Try having TWO Keyfit 30s to install and your husband is 6'8". We had to buy a different vehicle entirely to accommodate! We just got a 2010 Equinox and it's the ONLY vehicle that fit both carseats because the back seat can slide back 8 inches. I LOVE my tall guy though!
  • It's safest to install it in the middle seat so you might want to try that.  Our SUV has LATCH only on the side seats and are thinking of installing it with the seatbelts so it will go in the middle.

  • I'm glad you guys said something, we're actually buying ours this weekend. Other than the size, is there anything else I should know about it?
  • It was a bit tight in our Mazda 3, but when we got our Honda CRV, it fit just fine.  It just depends on your car.  Having said that, I can't say enough about how much I liked our Chicco travel system and the customer service I got from them.  If it fits in your car, I highly recommend it.

  • I think all car seats are the same size. We have a small car and it's a tight squeeze, to be sure. But no car seat is going to fit well in a little Honda Civic.

Also, you're supposed to install the seat in the center.

  • We love it the seat, but even in the middle of my car, a Jetta, the front seat passenger is scrunched!  And it's no better in DH's larger car - we did have to put the base on the passenger side vs. the middle due to his seat belt types.  Also, was interesting, both officers who inspected our car seats really discouraged using LATCH - we weren't, but still something to think about.
