3rd Trimester

My Dr's Appointment made me cry...

No progress today...barely effaced...and the dr said that I need to come in tuesday night to have the cervical gel to help me dialate and then hopefully they will start me on pitocin on wednesday morning.  BUT the I told the dr how worried I was about a failed induction considering I am not dialated at all yet...he said I would just have to have a c-section and that is something I have wanted to avoid.  So I am having a pity party and am getting over myself and remembering that no matter what our daughter is healthy! Please send labor dust to me this weekend so I won't have to be induced!

  • I am so sorry, but remember you have to do what is the best for you and your lo.

    Good luck....

  • Most dr let you go to 42 wks if you want to wait. Totally understand your point of view. Try relaxing this wkend and focusing on having the baby....

My Doula says it is as much mental as physical to have a great labor.

Wishing the best...hopefully contractions start soon :)

  • However she comes out, as long as she is healthy, it doesn't matter.  I had a c-section and will with this one.  It's not all so bad and it goes a lot faster!  You will do great!  Labor dust to you!

  • I am sorry that totally sucks...with DS I was 8 days late, I went into labor on the day I was suppose to be induced...I hope that happens to you! Lots of labor dust your way!
  • Fingers crossed for you!  You've got all weekend, and there's a good chance that you'll be in better shape by Tuesday.

Also, maybe you've already talked about this and there's a medical reason you have to be induced but you'll just be 41 weeks at that point next week -- is there any way he will let you go a little longer?  Did you ask?

Finally, I know everybody means well when they say that all that matters is a healthy baby, and of course that's is the biggest deal -- but it doesn't mean that other things don't matter too.  Labor and birth are this huge life changing thing, and we go through a whole 9 months thinking about how we want it to go, and then to be told it can't be that way IS upsetting, especially if the doctor is kind of dismissive of you, like it sounds like this one might have been. So fight for what you want, and if you can't get it, no harm in letting yourself feel upset about it for a while.

  • Just a quick story that might make you feel better.  My sister was enduced at 41 weeks with no progression.  Her water burst under an hour with the pitocin, and my niece was born shortly (2 hours) after.  Inductions aren't always horror stories--sometimes your body just needs a jump start.
  • You don't want LO to stay in there forever, do you? :)

I don't want a C-section either, but I realize at some point they are necessary. And don't get ahead of yourself - you may have a perfectly successful induction.
