10 out of 10 days I know I am blessed to be a SAHM but thank goodness for naptime is all I have to say.
8 a.m. - Ahh the girls slept in! Awesome
8:02 a.m. - Sleeping in didn't do them any good. The morning started off with meltdowns from both girls... not sure why... maybe just to give me a preview of what life will be like when they are 14 and 16?
8:30 a.m. - We've made it through breakfast, and only because I obliged Ava and let her have PB&J. After all those tears, I'm ready for a break. After getting both girls cleaned up I sit them in the playroom and pour myself a cup of coffee (that I didn't get to have).
9:00 a.m. - Get little one diapered & dressed, big one pantied & dressed
9:05 a.m. - Turn on some Dora! I'm ready for a break! Pour a cup of coffee (take #2) and enjoy the fact that they are entertaining themselves quite well for the moment (which could pass any second).
9:30 a.m. - They are actually playing really well and have been for awhile now (which is about as much as I can ask for in one day, I do realize this) so I think "Hmmm... I should organize some photos on my computer and actually order some prints from the past year or so. I really need to do this and maybe I'll even look online for some nice new albums to put the prints in and..." Dare to dream Kessler. Dare to dream.
9:35 a.m. - My thoughts of getting some pictures organize come to an abrupt end as soon as Ava's new princess straw cup becomes the center of a sisterly cat fight that needs some refereeing!
9:40 a.m. - The rest of the morning is a jumble of Dora, diapers, phone calls, calculating WW points for the one thing I managed to stick in my mouth today, playing "Starbucks" (this is what Ava now calls a tea party... what kind of influence am I having on my 2.5 year old?), princess shoes and trying several times to get back on that photo project...
11:30 a.m. - In hopes of an early naptime, I serve an early lunch.
11:31 a.m. - Ava has meltdown #3 or 4 (I've lost count) and refuses her lunch. I let her sit with it for a while... maybe she'll eat... besides I need a few minutes to get dinner in the crockpot.
11:40 a.m. - Dinner is in the crockpot. Check on kids.
11:41 a.m. - Wow! Good thing I served lunch to my starving toddler. My table really needed a smashed pea treatment. That's good for the wood right? Oh and Charlotte (who has been irritable and not sleeping all week... I suspect it's teething) has fallen alseep in her highchair. The ONE TIME she goes to sleep easily this week, she is a pea covered mess and I have to wake her to clean her up. I have to admit I was tempted to let her sleep covered in peas and just put her bedding through the laundry when she woke up (she needs some decent sleep already) but I couldn't do it. Images of Farrah and Amber flashing through my mind wouldn't allow me to.
11:42 a.m. - I'm cleaning Charlotte off and realize a quick bath is going to be easier.
11:50 a.m. - A clean Charlotte is now wide awake so I sit her with some toys so I can tend to Ava who is still smashing peas on my table. Apparently she isn't going to budge on eating lunch issue.
Still 11:50 a.m. (I think... who knows) - I see and hear Charlotte make her way to the kitchen which is fine because everything in there is closed/turned off/baby proofed/etc. There were a few plastic containers on the floor that she was playing with earlier and I knew they would keep her entertained long enough that I could clean up Ava's lunch mess.
11:51 a.m. - I realize that the banging of plastic containers is NOT coming from my kitchen, but from my bathroom. The banging was Charlote getting into the wastebasket in there, but wait, it gets worse... she is playing in the toilet! Ewwwww! I have a 2 year old who has never done this, but Charlotte is teaching me that I cannot take my eyes off her for a second (well technically a minute if you're keeping track). Of course this is Murphy's Law because that door is NEVER opened! The one time it is... well, she goes swimming in the toilet.
11:52 a.m. - Another bath is in order for her.
Noon - An early naptime is not going to happen.
12:01 p.m. - Everyone is now clean and fed (well they were served lunch anyway, of course that doesn't mean anyone actually ate it), dancing to the Fresh Beat Band or playing nicely (within my sight) while I clean up
12:48 p.m. - Just waiting for Dora to start singing the "We did it!" song so we can start naps. Momma needs a break! (We'll see what the little one thinks about that).
1:00 p.m. - Ava is in her room for a nap but is not napping in any form. Charlotte is nursing (not for the first time... I managed to get some other feedings in there somewhere), but is distracted and clearly not interested in taking a nap. The 3 minutes or so in the high chair was more than enough.
And now... here I sit on The Bump with a very smiley baby in my lap, about to start my picture project (yeah right) and about to get interrupted in 5, 4, 3, 2....
Sigh. Our mornings usually go much smoother than this for the record. Gonna spend the rest of the afternoon trying to convince Charlotte that a nap is a good idea and take back some control in this household, so when my DH gets home (early today) he'll think things have been picture perfect all day.
Re: Ahh naptime......
OMG! LOL, but I'm sure you're dog wasn't laughing!
The thing I don't get is one minute they are both acting miserable. Ava is having a meltdown because she is a drama queen (and possibly getting those last 2 teeth) and Charlotte I am 99% sure is teething. The next minute they have these bursts of energy and are all smiles. They just want to keep me guessing. I just hope they wake up feeling better... not only would it make it easier on me but I am pretty certain they aren't feeling well and that makes me sad.
Ahh, kessler!! I just read that whole thing and chuckled along the way... sounds very familiar!!
I think I am going to write out my days like that, it has to be therapeutic!
Naps at our house are few and far between. I just made Jack have quiet time for 30 minutes, although he rolled around on his bed, kicked the walls, dumped a puzzle, took all the blankets off his bed, opened his curtains and lined up al his stuffed animals while singing at the top of his lungs. Thankfully, Sawyer didn't wake up.
Now he is back downstairs and I sent him to his playroom to play. That means I have T- Minus 2 minutes before he follows me in here to play.
lol. Tis ths life, huh?!
