I should have just gotten the family-size bottle. OMG. I think I eat, on average, 4-6 a day. But sometimes I need way more. The bottle says "no more than 10 in 24 hours," and I'm sure I've come close to that max dosage. Is that really bad?
(Yes, I can call my doctor later, but I have students right now and I really want to take some more )
Re: Is it possible to overdose on Tums?
If you take too many for too long of a time period you can get kidney stones.
Hope that helps.
Ok. Thanks
Note to self-- buy Gas X on the way home.
Any other reccommendations?
I fell like if your having to take that many in 24 hours then maybe you should try something else. Zantac is a lifesaver for some people. I would call you doctor and see what they recommend doing where you are taking so many tums. HTH.
Yeah, you should start taking Pepcid AC for heartburn, it works better than Tums.
The only danger with Tums that I know of is all of the calcium (it's in a different form than it is in milk or dairy I think), so if you're prone to kidney stones be careful.

Ok, now I don't feel so bad. Did you get constipated? (sorry, TMI).
I mean, if I eat a bunch today, but get something else this afternoon, it can't be all that bad in ONE day right? RIGHT?
I might throw my students out the window if I don't start feeling betters soon.
Kidding.
Sort of.

Any excuse for a shake, eh? lol
I swear I discovered it by accident. I had horrid heartburn one day at work and my tums were not working, so a friend of mine (who was a few weeks ahead of me) suggested ice cream. Well because I had a Physical Therapy appointment I needed to keep it quick and a wendys was right next door. OMG the relief was amazing.I loved the therapists reaction to me walking in with a frosty; he is a father of 5. "Craving?" Me: "Nope - heartburn". He laughed for about 5 minutes saying he is telling his wife because she is going to hate that she didn't think of it.
It being a yummy frosty is just a bonus.

Apparently, yes you can OD on tums. A couple of weeks ago my pregnant co-worker went in for a routine pre-natal visit, and had (for her) abnormally high blood pressure. Her husband happens to be a doctor, and started noticing how many tums she was taking at home. She also mentioned she was taking additional at work as well. Apparently if taken in excess the calcium (and possibly some of the other ingredients) in Tums can cause high BP. She cut back on the Tums, and her BP returned to normal ranges.
As other posters said, if you feel you are taking more than what's recommended perhaps it's time to speak with your doctor about other ways to control your hearburn.

OK. I called the nurse
She said to get some Zantac 75 and take it in the morning and at night. She said it is ok to take up to 150mg. And she said I can take the regular dosage of Tums, on top of that, as needed. I feel much better now.
I asked my OB at my last appointment because I've had some serious heartburn too. I only take 2 at a time, usually only once a day. He told me that if it gets to a point where the Tums aren't enough, try OTC Pepcid AC. I would (and probably will) definitely try the Frosty, though. Why not?!
I also read that if your heartburn is worse at night, try sleeping with your upper body propped up instead of lying flat. It's supposed to help because the acid can't get up into your esophagus as easily. Never tried it myself, but could be worth a shot.
GL!
It depends on how high your LO is in your torso. This never helped me
