Trouble TTC

XP: Go Whoopi!

I'm watching the view, waiting for the snow to stop and they just brought up the Guiliana and Bill episode from yesterday. They were talking about weight in Hollywood and Whoopi went off on Guilianna, saying "if the doctors told her to gain 5 to 10 lbs to have a baby then that's what she needs to do. It's not her job to be skinny, she needs to eat, because the baby needs to eat. Hell with her".

Summarized...I couldn't type fast enough to get exactly what she said.

Re: XP: Go Whoopi!

  • I don't know...I am uncomfortable with her commenting on Guiliana's weight.  I was told I need to lose 10% of my body weight to help with fertility, and it is not only very difficult to hear but it is very difficult to do at the drop of a hat.

It's between Giuliana and her doctor, in my opinion, and none of Whoopi's business.

This. Everybody's experience is unique and not ours to place judgment on.

That's kind of how I felt. She kept using her job as an excuse not gain the weight. IMO she seemed kind of vain about gaining.

I 100% agree and it might not be easy for her to gain, I have a friend who has stomach issues with ulcers and she has so much trouble gaining weight and it's not anyone's business to comment on someone's weight, IMO.

  • Idk. I kinda agree with Whoopi. Even if its not her place to say something about it. If she really wants a baby as much as she says, I think she should be willing to do whatever it takes. Like I said yesterday, I know she works in hollywood and they have so much pressure to look good, but what happens if she does conceive and then its a uphill battle to eat? What if she gets scared to gain weight while pregnant? I just don't get her.

  • As someone who was told to gain weight, I can't imagine using my job as an excuse not to. I understand the insecurities she must have being in that job, but if they're going to be so open about their IF, why not try everything possible. Plus, there are healthy ways to gain without becoming overweight, and will probably include overall health. When someone is that thin, it hurts their own health, not just fertility.

I understand where you are coming from. I was also told I need to lose weight and it isn't easy to do. BUT Guiliana seemed to be reluctant to lose weight because of her job.

Ok may be u ladies are right, but she puts her business out their and if she was told to gain weight for a baby then do it... Especially if you have IF! It's just weight! If she doesn't want to be judged then keep that shiit private! Hell bill wants her to gain weight!

  • Before I knew that she had IF problems (like yesterday), I always thought she looks way too thin.  She's a toothpick next to everyone on TV.  I think she looks unhealthy.

Honestly, it is her business only if she wants to gain/lose/maintain, but being in the public eye, opens herself up to criticisms.  I do wish her luck though.

Exactly this! I also agree with Umm. If they are going to be open about IF then why not do everything they can to try to conceive? Its not like she would gain the 10 lbs and people question why shes gaining weight. Everyone knows shes TTC and know her dr. told her to gain weight.

I missed it, and none of the videos are available in Canada, but that's kind of the vibe I keep getting.  Really, if she's going to lose her career over he waistline, then unfortunately she's in a position where she has to choose between career and motherhood.  We can't have it all, but sometimes we have the power to get the things we really want, one way or another.  We just have to choose which things we really want.

But I doubt she'd get fired for gaining 10 lbs.  I don't want to judge her for her body choices - Lord knows I've battled weight from both sides of the spectrum - but she's choosing her appearance over an increased chance at conception.  Your body really does need a certain amount of body fat to ovulate and sustain another life.

Not only all of this, but she also is putting herself out there having a reality TV show  about IF and appearing on The View to discuss it. I kind of feel that she put herself out there.

If it's difficult for her to gain for medical reasons, then she should have said so.

I think so too.  She has the whole lolli-pop head thing going on.  I do wish them the best but if they choose to show their IF journey to the world then they should expect criticism if they are not at least trying to do what the doctor has suggested to improve their fertility.

I think it is great that they are putting their issues out there for everyone to see and to gain awareness, but I don't think it is the best message when you refuse follow doctor's orders.

Yes, agreed!  And if she didn't want her weight to be made an issue, she shouldn't have disclosed that her doctor is advising her to gain.  She came out with the info.

    Exactly.

This exactly! It's like saying 'we want medical intervention, but we don't want to do anything that's not easy'. I would much rather gain 10 lbs than have to go through surgical procedures.
