Baby Eczema

Hi everyone!

I was wondering if any of you have a baby with eczema.  My 4 month old son has is it on his abdomen, diaper area, 1 elbow, thighs and a couple spots on his face.  He also has a mild case of cradle cap that comes and goes.  Are they at all related?  Have you found anything that helps with either (especially the eczema)?  Please help.  I feel so bad for him becuase I think it itches sometimes.  :(

Re: Baby Eczema

  • Waiting for answers...

DS has a couple small spots on his face too.  And cradle cap too.  Nothing too bad, but it would be nice if someone has a remedy.

  • My son had cradle cap (hope it stays away) and we would Oil his head up let it sit well we prepared his bath then wash his hear. also we did some baths with just water, but most baths are with bubble bath. Our Pidi recommend that we use Vanicream for his really dry spots but she never said he ad Eczema.
  • Our oldest had a mild case of cradle cap too. We just put baby oil on it, the brushed his hair with the baby brush. He outgrew it pretty quickly.
  • My son has a mild case of eczema.  This is what our pedi told us to do.  We use hydrocortisone cream on the spots (never on his face, though) and Aquaphor cream over that and all over his body after bath.  I buy the big tub of it (it looks like a Vaseline tub) for about $15.  One tub lasted an entire year!

I don't know if cradle cap is related.  But here was our remedy, like the PP, put baby oil on his head and comb the flakes out and then, of course, wash his head.  You might have to do this for a few days.

  • We've always used aquaphor, but DS's is pretty mild and only in the winter.

I had a little girl in my daycare class who had it really badly (REALLY bad).  She was put on a steroid cream for it.  Honestly, it looked so much better and she was obviously more comfortable because she wasn't constantly scratching.

  • My pedi said it was just infant eczema and it would go away.  My chiro said it is almost always a food allergy.  I started thinking about anything I had changed in DS's diet (he didn't always have it) and recalled we had changed to Similac Sensative (generic version) at about 3 months.  That has soy in it...so we switched to a no soy formula and wouldn't you know - the eczema is gone.

    Worked for me...GL!

Mine said the same.  I had to cut out dairy while BF and it went away.  She also had horrible gas with dairy.  She grew out of it and can have dairy now.

  • My DD has eczema on her face. Aveeno Baby lotion works great. Get the one that say "Soothing Relief Moisture Cream".

  • My ds has some dryness on his legs, back and arms.  I think aquaphor is a miracle lotion.  I lube him up after bath really good and his skin is always better in the morning.
