No interest whatsoever. He doesn't really have a typical telltale sign that he's going, and he doesn't say anything to us about having to go. We have a potty for him, but he doesn't really care much for it. He's the same way at daycare......just doesn't seem interested in it or even bothered by diapers.
Any suggestions? Daycare uses stickers for rewards, but again - DS doesn't care. We've thought about using something edible for a reward.........but I'm not sure how I feel about it.
Does anyone have a great potty training victory story to share?
Re: My almost 2.5 year old shows NO interest in the potty
I knew that boys generally took longer than girls. And DS's class at daycare is mostly girls. But whenever I see all of the "awards" on the bathroom door for Potty Training Achievement, I feel like I'm doing something wrong since DS is nowhere close to it.
Thanks for the support!
We tried M&M's when DD was almost 3--it was after Halloween (I remember the M&M's being black and orange), and she turned 3 in January.
The M&M's did the trick--she got one for pee and 2 for pooping in the potty. I got that from Jon and Kate + 8 back before they went all Hollywood.
I was not crazy about using food as a reward, but we were getting desperate. She showed absolutely no interest in stickers, rewards, etc. either.
My DS was nowhere near PTing at 2.5. He would sit in a dirty diaper for hours if I let him. It wasn't until he was 3.5 that he finally cared. I tried every tactic you've heard of off & on between 18 months & his 3rd birthday. Then I gave up trying. 6 months later, out of the blue, he said, "Momma I have to use the potty." And he did. The next weekend we did a modified "3 day Potty Training" using a sticker chart as a reward him for staying dry every 30 minutes. We never asked him if he had to go, but only waited for him to tell us. When he did use the potty we went crazy celebrating & each time gave him a "trophy" I made out of TP roll & a template I found on Nick Jr's website. He had 2 accidents that weekend & none during the day after that. He took about 10 days to be night-trained.
I've talked to a lot of moms and none of their boys were PTed before 3 years old. None. Well, unless you count my DH who, according to his mother, was PT'd before 18 month. I call B.S.
Another vote for after 3 years. My son showed no interest, so we waited until he was 3 years and some change. Went cold turkey with underwear and he trained in a few days. It did help that all the other kids at daycare were already trained so he had seen it a million times there.
Don't worry about it yet. All the other kids being done just paves the way for an easier road for you
