Parenting after a Loss

Aaack. Just booked a trip!!

DH and I are going to Seattle.  We've been promising my bff and his wife that we'd visit them since they moved to WA 2 years ago - but we have YET to do it.  So, we just booked our flight, and we're going in May.

As it stands right now, Gray will be staying with my parents, but if Iose my nerve we might be bringing him with.

He'll be about 8 months old, so we should be able to do 4 days away from each other, right?  Right??

Re: Aaack. Just booked a trip!!

  • are you planning on still BFing at that time?  is he able to take bottles yet?  honestly, if he doesn't drink from bottles yet, i don't think taking a trip is worth destroying a successful BFing relationship.  and you will have to pump all the time & find a place to store all the milk...  I don't think we will be taking trips without DD until she's at least 2, but we'll see.

  • Good for you guys! I hope you have a great time :)

I agree that you should start working on the bottle thing now so he is ready, but I think he will be fine when you are gone.

How exciting, I need a vacay!

  • You'll be fine and Seattle sounds awesome. DH and I just went up to Wisconsin last weekend with my family and left Cora with the inlaws. At first we felt a bit guilty for not taking her with us but it was SO nice to have some adult time and relax, take naps, sleep in, got to a winery, etc. I think it's important to have some adult time for your marriage!

We are EBFing but Gray does great taking a bottle (we use the Adiri bottles - and he doesn't mind them).   I am planning on bringing my pump, but I won't be storing the milk.  It will be too much of a pain - so I'll pump and dump.  Which as depressing as that is, it'll be much less of a hassle than storing and freezing bags and then getting them home on the plane.

  • FUN!  well, I know you will be swamped.  but if you are not, you should look me up!
