Hi, I am Alison, I just had a natural m/c @ 6w5d on 2/15. It has been difficult trying to get back to reality but I've been lurking on some of these boards and it actually seems to help.
Anyway, my question is what should I expect with the first AF post-m/c? My doc told me I should get it within 4-6 weeks, and if it takes longer than 60 days to call. He didn't mention anything else but from what I've seen online it looks like it could be very painful and abnormally heavy when it returns. I'm a little worried because we are supposed to be going away right at the 5-6 week mark and I don't know what to expect. I guess I'm just looking for a little insight from some of you that have been through this as to how bad it will be? FWIW my m/c wasn't too bad pain wise for me.

((hugs)) I am very sorry for your loss. Welcome to the board, I hope your stay is short and sweet.
My first AF post natural m/c was almost 5 weeks. I did have mild cramping or heavier flow. I am sure that it is different for everyone. My m/c however was the most pain I have ever felt in my life and I don't know if 11 weeks makes that any different. I hope that AF shows for you quickly.
First, I am so sorry for your loss. Welcome to the board. The women here are absolutely amazing & offer wonderful advice & support as long as you offer support in return. Feel free to join in on conversations when you feel comfortable.
I think everybody is different when it comes to AF after m/c. I had a d/c so I'm not sure if my first AF was different than somebody who had a natural m/c. I had my d/c 5/15 & my first AF came 7/9. It was really crampy but wasn't any heavier than any of my normal periods.
I hope that helped. I hope you find your answers & that your stay on the board is short & sweet.
Welcome to the board...I'm so sorry for your loss. ((HUGS))
I had my first post loss period exactly 6 weeks after our loss, and it was a little longer and heavier than normal...but not too bad.

I am so sorry for your loss!! Welcome to the board, it is definitely helpful!
Of course everyone is different, so there is really no way to prepare for this, but FWIW I m/c'd at 5 1/2 wks, mine was also not the worst as far as pain. My next AF showed up basically like my normal cycle around 28 days later. It really wasn't any worse than normal. I guess my cramps were a little stronger, but nothing that ibuprofen didn't help. This past cycle (my 2nd post-m/c) I had some new symptoms with AF, like nausea, but again nothing too extreme.
Good Luck and I hope your stay here is short!

I'm sorry for your loss. I've had 2 m/c. My first AF was HORRIBLE, extremely heavy flow, lots of clots...the kind where you wanted to do nothing for a week. My first AF after my second m/c was lighter than a normal period and not bad at all. So, I guess it varies from cycle to cycle as well as person to person. I hope yours isn't bad, especially if you will be away.
Sorry you have to be here, but the ladies on the board are very helpful. Welcome.
Thanks for all the responses and the warm welcome. I too am sorry for everyone's losses and am amazed at how strong all of you are.
I am worrying about this because we are going on a cruise with a bunch of friends and I am hoping it won't interfere with any of the trip. None of them know about this and I don't really want to have to tell them. Maybe i will down the road but it is all so fresh right now. I'm just hoping if AF comes while I'm on this trip it won't interfere with it at all. If it is heavy like it was with the m/c I can't picture laying out in a bathing suit at all....
I'm so sorry for your loss.
I had two m/c's - one natural and one D&C. Both times AF came exactly 52 days later, and was very similar to my typical cycles.
I hope things move along quickly for you.
I lost at 11 weeks, 1 day, but the baby died at 8 weeks 5 days. I had a D&C schedueld but miscarried naturally before the surgery. I lost so much blood I needed emergency surgery.
I was put on BCP about 4 weeks after because of spotting, took myself off after 3 months to start TTC again and now AF shows her ugly head pretty regularly.
So I didn't truly have AF come back, I fended her off with BCP.
I am sorry for your loss.
My miscarriage was at 6w4d. My miscarriage wasn't painful physically either. I bled heavy for 5 days and then spotted 6 days after that, After the spotting, I got AF 38 days later.
My AF wasn't painful but I never had painful periods. It was very thick and stringy.
I hope this helps.
I'm so very sorry for your loss. It takes a while to get back to normal - both physically and emotionally.
For my first m/c, It took me a loooong time for my first AF (77 days), and that was abnormal. But the first AF after the m/c wasn't too bad.
Welcome to the board - look forward to getting to know you, though I hope you get to move on to PgAL quickly!

I'm very sorry about your loss.
It sounds like you got a lot of answers from all the other girls. Welcome to TTCAL, hope your stay is short!
I just want to give you a world as beautiful as you are to me.
I am so sorry for your loss. My first loss was right around the same time as yours, and I too had a natural m/c. Cramping, heavy bleeding, clots etc. My first AF following was 36 days later and pretty much normal. I dont recall heavy cramping. The bleeding was slightly heavier and lasted maybe a day or 2 longer than the usual. I got my sticky BFP after that.
Good luck to you!
Welcome to the board Alison. I'm so sorry for your loss. With my last mc it took almost 40 days before AF decided to arrive. I stopped bleeding about 2 weeks after the mc occurred and then it just took my body a little while to get the picture. I have heard some ladies say it has taken them longer. My personal experience was that at the 5-6 week mark I was feeling alright and no longer had any bleeding. The worst pain I had was about 3 days after the bleeding started that's when my cramping became terrible for a few days.
I just had a d&c on Monday and didn't have much pain or bleeding until today. The bleeding has been minimal, but my cramping today has been terrible. Everyone's experience is different but you should be feeling pretty good at the 5-6 week mark and it will be good to take a break away from things too. I'm sorry again for your loss and hope you find comfort on this board.
I am so sorry for your loss... I hope your stay here is short!
I had a natural M/C on 1/24, had bleeding for about 5 days and then just started my first AF this past monday 2/22 and am just about done. This all seems pretty normal for what my cycle usually is 28-30 days and about 4-5 days of bleeding. Just keep in mind that everyone is different. I hope that this helps a little bit
I am really sorry for your loss.
Both times I had af 4 weeks later. It wasn't too much worse than normal. No additional cramping, and with the natural some clots, but nothing terrible.

I can only share my personal experience, and I know all people are different, but of course it's good to hear all your options!
I am currently on CD5 on my first post m/c AF...and finally the bleeding has tapered off (mostly). I have found that this period has been EXTREMELY heavy...not really bad cramps or anything, but very heavy. I've had to use a tampon AND a pad as a backup. Sorry if TMI. I'm not sure how your body will handle things, but I hope everything will be okay. I also had very short cycles before I got pregnant (22-23 days) and this AF came 26 days after my D&C, which seems pretty much on track with how things were before.
