So DH and I are trying to prepare the best we can for when we become parents. We are getting rid of debt, saving money and watching closely what we spend. Since we don't know how long it will take for us to conceive once we start trying we think it's best to prepare ourselves with time.
So yesterday we started making a list of possible expenses to give us an idea of what we can expect. That brought up daycare. I had no idea how much that would be do so today I asked a co worker. She told me she pays $850 a month for daycare. I almost fell back when she told me this. I'm hoping that it's that expensive only because it's in downtown near all the offices. So it's convenient therefore pricey.
So now I turn to you ladies. What is the average price for a daycare?
Re: Daycare $
I know where my son goes (Creative Child) i'ts 1020 a month for the infants. I pay 390 for two weeks now that he's in the toddler room.
I too live in tamarac...
After some research and threats to resign
I ended up changing from full time work to part work (3rd shift)
I couldnt fathom paying $1000-$1500 per month for the daycares I actually liked. (there really wasnt any) I figured I could be my childrens best teachers and believe me after some of the places I saw, I am very happy with my situation.
I understand not everyone can make the choice I did but if I were to do it all over again I would have figured out how to save $$ to STAY hom 100%.
I admire those women that must work and have to deal with daycare droppoff's, pickup, managing your time to effectively manipulate your day.
WITH DAYCARE BEING SOO EXPENSIVE, I am almost convinced a nanny in the home might be a better option at this point in the game
JUST my opininon...
I pay $180 a week for 3 full days, plus $15 a month for webcam access.
Also, if you are planning and looking at expenses don't forget about Insurance, I was surprised that is almost $50 a week to insurance DD.
Thanks ladies. I knew daycare was expensive but I never thought it would be an average of $800 a month. Yikes. I guess I was living in a fantasyland. But its good that I know this now so we can plan accordingly.
I wanted to add too the cost of a center vs. in home care will skew the numbers. You can typically get home care cheaper than at a center; it's just what you are comfortable with.
Oh, and infant care for my center would have been 240 a week; it gets cheaper as they get older.
