Help me dress my kids for pics, please

I am so bad at this. We are having some family pics made sometime in the next month or so. I want the boys to wear these polos, which are currently $5 plus free shipping. I was thinking the little boys in the solid green and Rhett in the stripe. But then what do DH and I wear if they are all in green. I tend to look washed out in white, so I don't know about that. I really like the pink solid, but there is no pink stripe. So does it go with any of the stripes? The black & white maybe? I really am clueless. I had everything all worked out, but then we put the pictures off because I really want for Wyatt to be sitting and I don't believe their outfits are going to fit anymore. I love these polos, but just don't know what to put together. To top it off Monte busts out with the fact that he wants me to buy him something "nice" to wear...so there goes the standard polo for him.

eta: Oops, just realized there are a million things on that page. I am looking at the pique polos a ways down.

Re: Help me dress my kids for pics, please

  • I probably wouldn't put the boys all in the same color - I'm not a huge fan of matchy-matchy clothes for portraits though. For you and Monte, you could do accent colors - purple goes well with green, as do neutrals like black, grey, brown, beige, or tan.

I can see a fun palette of the little boys in green, Rhett in the stripes, you in a purple, and Monte in a black w/ green or purple accents.

  • I think the bright pink with that black and white would be too much...  i like the pink with the navy stripe.  Also, I like the green with the navy stripe If you go them in different colors, you and DH have more leeway in your colors and it's not as matchy-matchy.  !

  • ditto libby, i'd probably do all different colors that are complementary. i'm trying to find you a blog post form a photography blog i follow... i have some ideas. i'll try to post later if i can find the post i have in mind!

here's a cute post with all different colors (the boys are triplets though) but same style, different colors:

  • Oh my gosh, those boys are adorable. See, I was thinking putting them all in stripes would be too much, but those were really cute.

  • I'd go for a similar color palette for all of you but not identical shirts or colors. For example, all bright spring colors, all pastels, all neutrals (or neutrals mixed with other colors), all regular colors (fire engine red, royal blue, shamrock green), etc.

The kids can all be polos. Monte can be in a button-up (since he wants to wear something "nice") but probably no tie since that would be too dressy if the kids are in polos.

You can wear a nice button-up shirt or even a nice cotton shirt (as long as it doesn't look like a t-shirt).
