3rd Trimester

Critique my stash of baby clothes!

Ok folks, I am really bored at work.  I'm going to list off what we currently have for the baby - tell me what you think I'll need more of for starting out.  We're Team Green and barely got any clothes as gifts.

- (5) Carters 0-3 month size sleepers

- (5) Gerber NB size onesies

- (3) GAP 3-6 month size onesies

- (4) beanie hats

- (2) pairs of pull-on pants

- (3) flannel receiving blankets

- (2) swaddlers

- (6) pairs of socks

- (1) fleece snowsuit type thing (it will still be cold for a good 2 months after the baby arrives)

- (1) package of NB size Huggies natural diapers

  • You'll probably want more 0-3 month onsies (10 or so) with more pull on pants. More recieving blankets, but get the ones that are bigger than the small flannel ones. Socks get lost easy so the more the better but you may want to get just a few of different kinds to see which ones with stay on LO feet.

  • I think that looks good, but I'm of the opinion that you shouldn't buy too much until your LO arrives. You don't know how big LO will be or what kinds of clothes will work best for you and LO.  Even though you can usually return or exchange clothes, it can be a huge pain; something you most likely won't want to deal with with a newborn.

I pkge of diapers? LIke the regular size pack? Might last a day or two... if you don't want  to buy too many NB size, buy size 1 but you don't want to run out in the middle of the night.

Overall, seems small but all the basics are there.  Should be fine.

Yup, it's not one of those jumbo boxes, just a medium-sized package.  More diapers are definitely on my shopping list for this weekend.

  • I would get one or two NB size sleepers, and at least one pack of 0-3 onesies. DS was 8 lbs and still wore NB for a month. Do you have scratch mittens too? I had to send DH out to get those after DS was born.

  • lots more diapers--- buy a jumbo pack  (or 2) because newborns poo all the time.

I'd probably get a few more sleepers too.  If the baby's diaper leaks and you need to change them often 5 won't be enough.

The Gerber onesies are going to be really small and won't last long so I'd buy more 0-3 onesies from Carters-- at least a 5 pack.

  • The Gerber onsies run really small - if you baby ends up bigger than about 7 lbs the newborn size won't fit.  I'd grab a pack of the 0-3 and a pack of the 3-6 plain white Gerber onsies, you'll use them for boy or girl, plus then you'll have the right size at the beginning.

I second more diapers - and wipes and ointment and all that jazz (but this is just about clothes, so you probably have that).

I wouldn't get too much more than that, espeically if you are like me and will want to get gender specific clothes right away.  After DS was born we got lots of boy clothes in the mail (we were team green) as new baby gifts.  Everyone likes to shop for baby clothes!

  • Are your onesies short sleeved? If they are you probably won't get any use out of the nb onesies since it will still be cold and they outgrow the nb stuff fast. They do come in handy however, if you were to layer them under a sleeper if it is really cold. I would get a few more nb & 0-3 sleepers, 0-3 long sleeved onesies, 3-6 shortsleeved onsies, 3-6 sleepers and receiving blankets. DD lived in sleepers and onsies when she was first born. If you have plenty of those in different sizes, I would say you are set. You will also get more clothes after the baby is born and people know the sex-we did anyways. You can count on them ruining 2-3 outfits a day and having to do a complete change, so keep that in mind and think about how much laundry you are willing to do when planning out how many clothes the baby will need.

  • I'll third that thought on Gerber onesies. They do run small. Return them and get Carter's.
