Has anyone done this? You might remember some issues that we've dealt with in the past few months that made us unhappy with the one we'd been seeing. So I decided to change her to a new practice for her 15 mo appt. I called to schedule it today, and they were really nice. Hopefully it will be a good choice!
But I called our current pedi to get her records transferred, and it costs 75 cents per page to transfer them! Is that normal? With as often as we were there in the last year, I can't imagine how many pages long her file is. I feel like the new pedi should have them due to her ear issues, but I guess they'll know by looking that she has tubes. She has had no other issues really. I have all of her vaccination records, which are filed with the State anyway.
WDYT? Do you think it is absolutely necessary for the new practice to have her records from her first year? I just feel like they should, but don't want spend that money if it's not really necessary, you know?
Re: WDYT?--changing pedis
When we switched pedis, there was no charge to transfer his records. But they would charge ME for a copy of his records. The new pedi called the old pedi and got the records themselves. I didn't have to do anything except sign a release form. So maybe if the new pedi called to get them they wouldn't charge? IDK. I know when Eli sees a specialist (he sees 3 other than his regular pedi) we weren't charged anything to get his records transferred then either.
I would not be comfortable with a new pedi not having Eli's files. But he's been through alot. I guess if Holly has an unremarkable past, it wouldn't really matter as long as they had her shot records. IDK, I still think I would want them to have them though.
Ive never heard of there being a charge...did your new office tell u to call the old office for the records? if they didnt tell u to call for them i'd call the office and see if they can request them and not get charged a fee.
My Sweet Girls
Every time I've personally changed practices (DH switching docs, me switching OB's) we've had to pay a charge. If I may step quickly on a soap box, I think this is BS! They're MY records! An excellent example of how digitized medical records would come in handy. ::steps off soapbox::
Anyway, I ditto the pp's to wait and ask the new pedi. I mean, I guess having the records is a better safe than sorry thing though... just in case something comes up that would necessitate looking back? IDK. I'd also make certain the new pedi is going to work out before having them transferred.
I switched OBs and it would have been a charge if I got the records, but doctor-to-doctor was free. They did not tell me this until I specifically asked them.
It was also awesome (not) that I had my RE records transferred to OB #1, but when they transferred my "complete" file, those RE records were not there, so then I had to go back to the RE to sign a release to send them to OB #2.
OB #2 and our pediatrician do electronic records, which is awesome.
