Success after IF

Moms: until when do we use Onesies?

DD is outgrowing all of her clothes quicker than ever...

I was shopping for her and realized I couldn't find many onesies in size 18-24..or 24 guess that would be size 2.

For how long do we use onesies? Is it a personal choice or a good reason to continue as long as possible?

TIA

Re: Moms: until when do we use Onesies?

  • I'm not a fan of the look of them once they start walking.

(eta:  I'm talking snap bottom tops meant to be worn as the outter layer - not onesie under other clothes.  I never really layered a onesie under regular clothes)

Once they're on the move it's easier to change them just whisking off pants instead of tugging and snapping/unsnapping.

Another consideration is when you think you'll want to start potty training because obviously they don't work well in that mode.

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.

  • Unless she's wearing one as a shirt or under a sweatshirt, I don't use and additional onesie under clothing.  Too much of a hassle and I dress her warm enough that she doesn't need one.

  • After about 18 months, we switched Colin into white tee shirts.
  • I found 24 month ones that are sleeveless at BRU. I plan to use them through the spring until it warms up for when she's wearing T-shirts.  Once fall comes, she'll be big enough for undershirts.  Claire is 12 months, but wearing the 24 month onesies.

  • Is it bad that I RARELY ever put a onesie on my child?  Seriously, unless its going to show, she never wears one.

She wore a long sleeved Onesie yesterday just because she had on short sleeves and I thought it looked cute layered...I'm a bad Mom :-(

  • I LOVE onesies, especially in the winter. I have 24 months short sleeve and long sleeved ones from Carter. But they are the biggest I've come across. I probably won't use them come warmer weather. My son will 2 in April.
  • I stopped around 1/walking as well.

  • I use them now for layering.  He wears one almost everyday under his long-sleeved t-shirts.  But it is a pain to change him.  We just endure it.  I'm going to stop when it warms up past 30 degrees for a while though and we start really concentrating on potty-training.

  • I like onesies for layering.  He's generally a hot kid, so we don't put too many sweaters and such on him.  So, we put a onesie under a long sleeve shirt.  I think I'll probably do that through the spring and then stop over the summer.  I'll probably return to them in the fall/winter unless I find it to be too much of a PITA!

  • DS has 1 shirt and 1 sweater that AREN'T onesies.  He's small, and it's still very cold here in Indiana.  If he doens't wear one, his belly is always hanging out!  I have a few from Gymboree that are 18-24 months, and I know Carter's makes them as well.

  • Like PP, I rarely use the plain white onesies -- just under her sleepers at night and under shirts so her belly and back stay covered while she's crawling around.

But cute bodysuits that snap and go under pants? Most places sell those in up to 24 months, I think (Carters/ON/Gymboree). My niece is still wearing them in 12-18 months, so I can count on hand-me-downs at least through that size.

  • Mine wear one every day. To me, it's far to cold here in MI and I don't want their bare backs/belly's exposed. So, if they are wearing a long sleeved shirt or sweater, they will always have a onesie on underneath until it's really warm out again.

They do have alot of long sleeved onesies that are made to be shirts with a design on them. Sometimes, I even put a short sleeve one under that if they are to thin.

Mine can still fit into a 12 month, but are mostly in 18 month ones now and we do have 24 month ones too. I get them at Carters.

  • I still really like them - they're the only tops that stay tucked in AND they keep him from any attempt at diaper digging.   I have 18 month size onesies from Kohl's, Baby Gap and Gymboree primarily .. and Jack is in a 24 month size onesie today actually (but most of 18m still fit him too.)

  • It's honestly just a matter of preference. If you like them, and they work for you, keep using them. Going to places like Khols, JCP, etc. might help you find the larger sizes of onesies.
