I dont meet with the counselor and dietian till Monday but im trying to start eating better (i found some information online) but i woke up this morning and was flipping out and crying because i feel like i did this to myself. if i had only worked out a little more or didnt eat that mcdonalds i wouldnt be here. I feel like i harmed my baby without even knowing.
I cant find anything in my research on what causes GD. Does anyone know?
Re: GD ladies
You absolutely did NOT do this to yourself. There is nothing you can do to prevent this, it just happens and they don't know why it affects some people and not others. It all has to do with the baby making it harder for your body to process sugar properly.
I beat myself up over it, too since I entered into this pregnancy with a higher weight but that doesn't matter. There are plenty of super healthy women who end up with GD anyway.
All you can do now is relax and watch what you eat. You'll be given a GD diet to follow and you'll basically just count your carbs.
It is a very frustrating process and sometimes your numbers just won't do what you want them to do even though you're eating right but we're all in the same boat so feel free to vent (heck, I just did this morning...haha).
As long as you keep your numbers in check, your baby won't be at increased risk. It's just uncontrolled GD which can lead to so many problems. You're already on the right track. Good luck!!!
Ditto Gherkina-- you didn't cause this.

You did NOT do this to yourself! I went through all of those emotions, too, but once I got the diet under control, it was actually pretty easy.
And my baby was born 6.5 lbs and perfect as can be! You can do it!!
