Any Oragnge County Mamas?...and intro

edited July 2021 in New York Babies

Hey ladies! I'm Dee and currently expecting my first in August. DH and I currently live in the city but, after months of begging, we're putting the house on the market in the spring. Yay! We'll be looking in Orange county and wondering if any of you have any recommeded towns to look into. Or any to stay away from?? Also wondering if anyone is or will be a SAHM. Since I won't know anyone around I'd love to meet some friends. Thanks in advance :)

(I'll also be posting this on HV nest board so I appologize if anyone had to read this twice)

  • Hi! I'm Erin I'm a SAHM and I live in Rock Tavern which is a little place no one ever knows it is by Washingtonville. I have no recommendations however I have lived in Blooming Grove, Monroe, and Goshen as well and they are all ok. Good luck with house hunting!

  • Hey Dee!

I answered your post on Hudson Valley Nesties, but I figured I would say hi here as well.  I have lived in Goshen, Central Valley and now here in Blooming Grove and the in-laws live in Monroe so I can try to help out a bit in terms of  picking a town.  Do you have a price range?  I don't know if you have ever gone onto www.GHVMLS.com, but it is where we found our house and our friends just found one on there too.

Hi! I saw and thanks for the response! I'll be sure to check out that sight. Our price range will really be determined when we see what we can get for our house now. And congrats on your LO!! Hope you decide to be a SAHM then we can have play dates LOL

  • Hi,We live in Tuxedo and my husband also works for the FDNY. ?It's about a 45 minute drive to NYC and just on the boarder of Rockland and New Jersey. ?It's a little bit of country in the suburbs, which is nice. ?There are pros and cons to every place, but I don't have too many complaints! ?Plus, we are close to some really great schools!

  • Hey Dee- Im Ally and live in Chester. I would say we are about and hour and a half from NYC. depending on how you go.  This was the farthest that I wanted to move as DH and I both work in Rockland.  He would have went further North.  The ladies on the nest gave you a pretty good reccomendation of the towns to stay away from. GL with your house hunt!

  • Hi, Dee!  This is actually my first time posting on this board (though I've always lived in Orange County).  I popped over here to lurk and get a feel for the board.  I live in the sticks -- Otisville.

I think I remember you from GP, no?

  • I currently live in Vernon, NJ (right on the OC border of NJ) but grew up in OC!  DH and I are currently house hunting in the southern OC area (Monroe, Washingtonville, Tuxedo, Greenwood Lake, Southfields, Harriman).  Realtor.com has tons of homes listed in the area.

Good school districts in OC:  Monroe-Woodbury, Warwick, Washingtonville, Tuxedo.  Stay away from Valley Central, Pine Bush, Newburgh and Middletown.  I actually went to Pine Bush HS and while it was a great school while I was there, the taxes are pretty astronomical!!  Middletown and Newburgh have a good deal of gang activity.

Stay away from the Mountain Lodge development in Monroe - from what I hear it used to be nice but a friend who recently drove through the area said it's no longer so nice (but everything was also really snow covered so it could be just the season!).

    Good luck!!

  • Hey!!  I remember you from GP!!  I just wanted to say that after months of begging, we too are moving back up north.  (We moved to NC last summer but hate being away from family.)  I too will be a sahm!  I went to college in Orange County and lived there for about 7 years.  I think I know the area pretty well.

I lived in Newburgh which definitely has its nice areas, but overall, not my favorite place.  We will be moving to marlboro which is a lot of apple orchards and farming.  Good luck with the house hunt and if you need a real estate agent, my MIL is an awesome one and loves working with us "youngins"!

  • Hello Dee,

Im a SAHM over here in westbrookville (on the border of orange and sullivan counties.)  It's great over here (were out in the country here)  I guess it's not for everyone, but i sure love it,lol, and it's a great place to raise kids.

Just wanted to say hello and hope your house hunting is going well.  Wish you all the best of luck!

  • Hi Dee, I'm Ericka I moved up from NYC 5 yrs ago, my fiance and I live in the Town of Newburgh . We are expecting our first child in August. May I say after being raised in the City I love Orange County, I'm no to far from Harriman, right next to New Windsor, and  Washingtonville. I wish you luck in your search there's plenty of inventory.
