Favorite go-to gift for baby showers?

Do you have any stand out favorites - besides big items?  Like for instance I loved the planner where you could write down feedings/changings/etc.  Stuff a new mom wouldnt think of.  Any suggestions would be great! Thanks!

Re: Favorite go-to gift for baby showers?

  • I just did this for a close friend's shower a few weeks ago.  I got her two cleaning sessions with an all natural "green" housecleaner.  I figured she could use one before the baby, and one after.  Another idea is to find a restaurant that does freezer meals and set them up with a few of those.  I always figure that most people get stuff for the baby, so I like to do something for the mommy-to-be.

  • I love Gymboree blankets--the big ones (there are two sizes). And of course a coordinating outfit if the gender has been determined. :o) Those blankets were my absolute favorites. The BEST for swaddling IMO.

Also ... practical stuff like wipes (a case of wipes from Costco is nice)--love those wipes.

  • I will let you know in a few months once I figure this mom thing out :o) however, I always like to do something homeade like a few burp cloths or a onesie with babys monogram combined with some more practical items off the registry.
  • Every shower I go to I always get the new mom Boogie Wipes and Mylcon.  Boogie wipes are saline nose wipes that get the crusty boogies off kids face.  The best invention ever!  And everyone needs Mylcon!!!

  • 2 of my favorite gifts were baskets that people had put together.

    1. Cute animal towel hoodie from PBK paired with a basket of Burt's Bees baby products

    2. Laundry basket, with Dreft detergent, Dreft cleaner to take out stains, and washcloths

  • If the bathtub has not been purchased...I usually do that and fill it with bath shampoo, washcloths, mylicon, nailclippers, baby tylenol, bath toys, and other small items that we use a lot of

I think I need to look for those boogie wipes mentioned...I have never heard of them. :)

  • The last shower I went to was for my best friend - so I went all out. I dumped about $200 at BRU and stacked a cloth storage bin with every necessity I couldn't live without:

Tubes of Lansinoh, Aquaphor, and Boudreax's Butt paste; Baby 411, pack of cloth diapers for burp rags, digital thermometer, infant Tylenol, Carter's receiving blankets, a Kidapotamus swaddle blanket, a Halo sleep sack, a couple organic onesies, an organic crib sheet, a couple board books, set of the teething keys, a couple random toys...can't remember what else. I called it her survival kit. She LOVED it.

This exactly. And, if there is an older sibbling I usually give them some bubble bath and bath paints or crayons.

  • I usually do practical gifts and try to stick to a theme - feeding, bathing, diapering, etc.  My favorite gift I got was from a girlfriend who had just had a baby a few months prior to me and she gave me a "mommy gift basket" which had all of the things you don't know you're going to need after delivery - cottonelle wipes, pads, breast shields, nipple cream, big girl panties.  LOL!  It was awesome!

  • one of my favorite things I got at my work shower.  It is a paci that you can put meds in for the baby to take it.  Total life saver and I would have never thought of that.

    Also, non-pink clothes for girls

  • Universal crib sheet.
  • One of my favorite things from my shower was a pair of Aden and Anais swaddling blankets.  They are great, particularly in the summer months.  I never would have known about them if I hadn't been given them.  The funny thing was it was a friend with no kids!

However, some of my go-tos are Robeez shoes (in 6-12 month size since you really don't need them before that), the Gerber bibs with a waterproof liner that you get at Target or BRU because I had spit up queens and those worked the best, and good old fashioned cloth diapers/burp rags.
