So........Abraham has this problem chewing things apparently. Every time I give him small pieces of things, he gags and vomits EVERYTHING. I mash everything, put everything in the blender. I'm not going to say that I don't mind doing this, because I do. It would not only be much easier if he just ate things without them being pureed, but I just feel like he has to learn and he's being very dramatic! And the way he does this, like his face, he's just so dramatic about it. Now it's gotten to the point that even pureed things, he won't eat. I don't know if it has to do with the fact that he's sick right now or if he's just scared of eating? Now I'm starting to worry that he's scared of food and milk isn't really enough for him anymore (at least I don't think it is). So I was wondering if there's anything I can do so that he won't vomit everything? Did any of your kids do this to you? In the meantime I will keep putting everything in the blender but this has to end at some point right?? The pedi told me there's moms who feed their 2 year old kids pureed food only and that kind of scares me.
Thanks for letting me share and for your help. I'm really stuck on this.
Re: Need help feeding this kid
its probably because he is sick, poor thing.
i would keep trying once he gets better...have you tried finger foods? like crackers, bananas, apple slices, ham and cheese rolls, raviolis? if he can tolerate that then i would start giving him rice and certain chopped meats ( i would go with picadillo since its already loose) for him to get used to. its probably just a phase. mady was eating pureed foods at least once a day until she was 11-12 months, everything else was whatever we were having. gl!
Zachary is 15 months and still eats mostly pureed foods. I am okay with it. I am hoping to get him off of the purees by the time he's 2. I am not in a big rush, to be honest.
I thought I'd put his food schedule here in hopes it will help you, as a mom of another picky eater
Breakfast: toast or a waffle, usually with a yogurt or half a banana (I eat the other half, yum!)
Snack: Puffs or goldfish
Lunch: 1 applesauce and 1 jar veggies with a few bits of cheese. On occasion, I can get him to eat a cheese sandwich with a little mayo & mustard. He really likes those if he is in the mood for it, but he didn't figure out how to eat a sandwich until about a month or so ago.
He typically does not have a snack between lunch and dinner because he plays a lot and takes a good nap in between.
Dinner: I try to vary this up - Sometimes I can get him to eat chicken nuggets with a jar of veggies. Sometimes he does not want finger foods. He usually will eat his Beech Nut banana cookie for dessert though - he REALLY likes those! Other nights I feed him an Earth's Best Stage 3 soup. It just depends.
So, there you have it. My kid is 15 months old and will eat jarred, pureed food for at 2 meals per day sometimes.
For the record, Evelyn - I tried turkey & cheese roll-ups with Zachary thinking he would like it and he just licked it... finally got him to take a bite and he made an AWFUL face and spit it out!!!! Hehe.

Well I'm glad this is normal! It definitely gives me hope! Eve, I have tried everything, picadillo is even too textured for him. Rice he vomits, there's nothing he'll keep down if it has the slightest bit of texture. I just hope he continues to eat purees once he feels better. And I guess I'll keep trying to give him textured foods and at one point (hopefully soon) he'll outgrow his picky-ness:/.
Thanks sooooooooooo much!!
kids go through phases with food. mine is going through the phase now of "chosing" what she wants to eat. ill fix her a plate of mac n cheese, shredded cooked chicken, some veggies and bananas...and one day she will eat only the mac n cheese, the next day only the veges...etc. hang in there
