NTTCAL-related: Update on vendor "situation"

He.. um.. basically lied about what happened with a rather weak, "Next time we'll go to lunch AND dinner" email this afternoon. My colleague and I were a little surprised, so we emailed him with our timeline of what happened and why we were so concerned. He basically weaved his lie into our chain of events. Yikes......

  • Methinks he's performing some CYA.  Or CHisA in this case.
  • Not sure if he's technically crazy, but he's clearly either an alcoholic (I mean - drunk before 5 pm??) or has a substance abuse problem. He is single, although it's possible he might have a gf, but he's definitely not married. He basically said that he was with a client in their office until after 1 am. I reminded him that the hotel checked on him in his room much earlier than that. Oh well... we said our piece. My colleague and I thought about what we would do if we were in that situation: 1) send gifts ASAP - bagels, flowers, etc; 2) call clients and basically beg their confidence, without technically asking them to stay quiet. Just share that it was a one-off event. Oh well - this just very very strange experience....
