TTC After a Loss

s/o multiple losses with a child story

So, I guess I am the different with having dd without any problems ttc or with my pregnancy with her. Then I went on having 3 mc's in a row. I had all the rpl testing, chromosomal testing on dh and myself with all normal results. My OB says all 3 were flukes (2 BO's and 1 triploidy). I said how could 3 mc's be flukes? He said well actually you have to remember that this is why we do research on a daily basis because "science does not know everything". So, I said something could be wrong and we just don't know what it is? He said absolutely that in 10 years from now they may have a few more tests and be able to diagnose more things that are causing mc's but today I am considered normal in sciences tests. He does believe that if we continue to try we will have another baby but like he said it may mean more loses...no one knows! Having secondary infertility sucks because you know you could do it "and hit it out of the ballpark with dd" and now 3 mc's. So trying to explain this to others they just don't understand. Everyone asks when are you giving dd a sibling? Little do they know she has 3 angels (one boy that we know of) in heaven! So for those wondering if they will ever have a child. Keep trying and don't give up. We are in it together!

Re: s/o multiple losses with a child story

  • I have had the same thing.  3 losses after children.  We are hoping that the fibroid being removed and a couple of other medications will stop the problems.  But, I know it is very frustrating.
DD(9)DD(5.5)DS(3)DS(born 2/1/11) July 2006, lost a baby at 8 weeks, natural miscarriage , May 2009 lost Zoe Eliana at 17 weeks no reason known, possible under developed organs. Lost two more babies in September 2009 at 7 wks 4 days. Had myomectomy surgery to remove a large fibroid in November 2009.

  • I've only had one loss after a healthy child - but I know what you're saying.  People keep telling me "you had one, you'll definitely be able to have another - the m/c was just a fluke!" Well, HTH do they know - honestly? What if DS was the fluke? It's not a fun road to go down :(

  • I'm with you - with a healthy DS followed by 2 losses. I have the MTHFR mutation, but no one can know if that's really the cause of the m/cs. I figure getting closer and closer to 40 isn't helping, but other than that, who knows. It's very hard, though it does make me grateful for DS every day.

  • Everything about infertility and loss is so frustrating, maddening and not well understood. IT would be nice if science knew everything.
  • Count me in that boat.

Except we now know what the problem was, DD was the fluke, cause it turns out in addition to too mild PCOS, I have a chromosome issue. Oh goody :(

I hate those questions too. I've actually started answering them with "I don't know if she will have one cause there's a genetic issue" or "We would like another but it does not look like that is going to happen.

  • I've only had 1 mc since dd, but dd is 8 yo.  People used to always ask when we were going to have another (before I was trying), and I would always joke that she would be 10 before I would have another baby.  It's looking like I may not have been that far off.  Everything about this is so frustrating.  All I want is to know if it will ever happen for us.

  • I'm definitely part of the "club"  Although I did have one early loss, then DS then 2 more losses.  We just completed our last procedure with the RE and everything is normal.  I think the Dr felt kind of bad because he didnt really have anything to tell us- so we are going to TTC again, on BA daily and progesterone after O because he said it cant hurt.  He did say that if I have another loss he will recommend clomid.
