We have only agreed on the name Mason, problem is that my first cousin is named Mason. He is 10 years old and we see his family maybe 2 or 3 times a year. Our son would not have the same last name. Weird or not a problem since we are not close to them?

Re: to close to family name...??
eh, I probably wouldnt use it. I only see my extended family once a year and it would still be weird while we were all together. I would consider talking to the parents of said child to see how they would feel first. You dont want to royally piss off someone you see 3 times a year and have some family drama about it. But they might just be really honored that you are going to use it. If they feel that way I would have no problem with it at all.
(but if you dont really like the family, then do what you want:)
If he's your first cousin then he will be your son's first cousin once removed, not his second cousin. Once you start getting into the areas of removal I say you're fine using the same name.
