Baby Names

Addison or Olivia?

I love both names for a girl and so does DH. But they will probably be called Addie or Livie. Im big on shortening names. BUT the middle name that IIIII like is Fayeth (pronounced Faith) because my late grandmothers name was Faye and I wanted to include her, but I really dont like the name Faye by its self. Other options for middle names are Elise, Laine and Ryan. Let me know! (its ok if you hate them, I think most people do haha!)

  • Olivia Faye is really nice.  I also like Addison Laine.

I'm not a fan of "honoring" someone by changing their name into something else; I just don't see the honor in that.  I say use the name or don't.  Does Faye a middle name that you may like better?

  • I like Olivia but I personally don't like your abbreviated name Livie.  My friend named her daughter Livia.  It's another option for a shortened Olivia name.

Faye actually was her middle name but it was the name she went by. Her first name was Allie. I dont really know that Addison Allie or Oliva Allie really work all that well haha. But thanks for the opinion on not using the name unless its the whole thing. Ive never really thought about it before, but I think I agree. What do you think about combining 2 parents names to create a new one? Elise is a mix of my mom and my Dh's moms name. Idk if it would be better or worse then just picking something else entirely.

  • I really like Olivia Faye. Fayeth looks like it should be pronounced like "fay-yeth."

Haha, my Dh said the exact same thing. He was more for Faith or Grace for a middle name. But Im idk about using a "fruit of the spirit" middle name, though they are pretty. My DH's middle name (and name he goes by) is Ryan, which is apparently an either or sex name now. I kindof like it with Olivia. Olivia Ryan.... idk..

  • Definitely Olivia, and I think Livie is an adorable nickname!

I would either use the name Faye to honor your grandmother, or use Faith if you prefer to use that name. I don't like Fayeth at all. I do love the name Olivia Faith, but I also like to use family names for middle names, so I'm no help there :)

THANKS! I LOVE Livie too. It just sounds cute, feminine and different, idk, I like different names. Faye is growing on me the more I think about it.

  • Definitely Olivia.  And Olivia Faye sounds cute!
  • I like Olivia Laine. Not a huge fan of the spelling of Fayeth, but at second glance, since its after your grandmother its actually very clever. I love the name Addison too, but I'm not big on Addie.... maybe just because I dont like the names Maddie or Abby... but thats just me!
  • I hate Addison so by default I vote for Olivia.

Totally respect that, seems to be the theme here haha. Can I ask why?

Addison is a disease and Addison means son of Adam. It isn't feminine to me and I don't see the appeal, but it's popular so I must be in the minority :)

  • Haha, youre not the minority tonight! Yeah, never thought about associating it with the disease! Also didnt know what was the meaning (not huge into meanings), but I can see why. I only think of that Dr from Private Practice (though I liked the name before the show started). But Livie is really growing on me. I figure you can never please everyone, but if we all like the same things then naming wouldnt be fun!

  • Well, I am partial to Olivia. :)

My 4 year old answers to Olivia, Liv or Livie.

I personally just like Faye.  I do love Faith and I understand that you're trying to honor someone with your unique spelling - but it looks odd.

  • Olivia!

I like Olivia Jean :) I know that's not one of your options so I'm just sharing what I would pair with it.

  • I like Olivia better.  And I like any of the middle names you picked with it, although my fave is probably Laine.

I know 2 women who are pregnant, one due in April and one in May, both of who are having girls and naming them Addision.  Another friend said there were 4 Addisons born in the hospital while she was there giving birth to her son.  It's kind of a cute name, but seems to be the next "It" name, the way Madison was a couple of years ago.

yeah I think so also. I found out 2 of my friends had plans to use Addison if they every had girls. Didnt know it was that popular, but I think I like Olivia better in any case. Also decided to maybe use Olivia Ryan or Rian? My Dh's name is Ryan and Ive heard it used for girls before also. But who knows haha.

  • I like Olivia Fayeth....very pretty and classic sounding.  I like it better, spelled Faith...but I like the reason behind the different spelling.

Thanks! Yeah my DH hates it spelled Fayeth, so probably wont use it. But I was trying to find some way to make it work:( maybe Fayth? I know people hate the diff spellings, but its got a purpose not just spelling it weird to be different haha!
