Library Book:Title too Interesting to pass up...

"Does Your Baby Have Autism?...Detecting the Earliest Signs of Autism"

by Osnat Teitelnaum and Philip Teitelbaum, PhD

I was looking up books on development and baby games and came across it. The title was too intriguing to pass it up. Basically the researchers used video tapes of babies who were Dx'd to see if there were any commonalities in their physical development such as rolling over, righting, sitting up, crawling, walking etc.

The illustrations are pretty good and it is also a very easy read so far. Has anyone else read this book?

  • Your use of "so-called" and "cohort" give me the impression you don't like these folks too much... ;)

I was just wowed by the title and how it leaped out at me from the library shelf. It really plays on Mommy Insecurities.

10 bucks says a bunch of people who read this post before you answered already went to see if they could get it on amazon.com.

This website was pointed out to me in an ACC forum. It has some interesting articles - one that disputes the book's claims (not specifically though):

  • So what was the "first word" they claimed your son said? I'm curious.

  • image-auntie-:

Cohort is just another way to say "scientifically chosen group that has a shared characteristic", in this instance kids with an ASD dx born between 1990 and 1996 whose parents have video recordings of their early months.

O.k. so DUH for me on the "cohort"

I need to get up to speed on research, diagnosis and acronyms. I spend half my time on this board googling.
