Success after IF

does your LO have annoying nursing habits?

H has become so much more active lately and part of that is he constantly grabs at my clothes, claws at my face, etc, when he's nursing. It is seriously driving me crazy. I'm sure all babies do this, yes? I don't want to stop him because I'm sure this is part of the exploration pprocess, but it is seriously annoying!

Re: does your LO have annoying nursing habits?

  • Yep, Elizabeth still does all of that. And in the evenings/weekends, I can't even nurse in the same room with DH because she wants to focus on him. I let her hold onto a necklace, a blanket, a sock, anything to keep her still.

She's also started grabbing onto her foot while she nurses...it's more than a little awkward.

She does do one thing that makes me laugh -- she'll pull off, look up at me and do this funny little "heh-heh" giggle. It's hysterical. :)

  • Lucy likes to stretch with my nipple in her mouth.  Cute the first time, but now it hurts!

  • DS likes to twist the nipple that he is not nursing on. Yeah that's a lot fun.
  • Like I said yesterday - Sam likes to clamp down and use my nipple like a dog uses a chew toy.  He shakes his head back and forth.  KILLS.  He also does thing thing where he plants his palm on my sternum and pushes his head back while trying to latch on.  Then he cries as though I'm denying him the boob.

  • Oh yeah.  DS has been popping on and off like crazy to look around the room or smile at me or DH or the dogs.  You name it.  I call it BFing Gymnastics.  It's gotten to the point where we can no longer nurse in public as I would give any onlooker quite the show.  And forget about a nursing cover.  Hopefully, the phase passes soon.  GL!  :)

  • Savannah doesn't really know when to say when. She will nurse and nurse until she gets sick.

Itty Bit pops on and off to just smile at me, which is adorable, but come on nurse already:) She also likes to clamp down and pull away--- OUCH!!!!!! That hurts!

H does this, too. I always yell "OUCH" very loudly so that hopefully one day he'll understand that it hurts mommy!

  • This totally gave me fun flash backs.  DS did all of this and more.  He went through a phase where he would nurse, then pop off, look at me, and smile as the milk dripped out of his mouth.  He thought it was hillarious.

It's all part of developing social skills.  The silly part usually does pass once they get mobile -- then they try to nurse on the go (like nurse for 2 minutes, go play, come back for 2 minutes, repeat until you just want to go somewhere else).  DS used to like to nurse with me lying down and he'd do downward facing dog around me.

    Enjoy the silliness!
