Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Anyone else's baby take Ranitidine?

I know I am a pharmacist and I give advice to people on a daily basis but I just started giving my kid ranitidine and he seems to be super sleepy all the time.  Have any of you noticed that too?  I just thought it seemed strange.  Maybe the tiredness has is just a coincidence.

Re: Anyone else's baby take Ranitidine?

  • DS took it from about one month old until about six months old.  I never noticed excessive sleepiness when he was on it, but I'm sure that could be a side effect.

  • DS took it from about 4 months to 7.5 months and like pp I never noticed sleepiness with it.

  • DD took it from 1 month to about 4 months.  I don't remember tiredness being associated with it.

  • DS was on Ranitidine until about 6mo when he grew out of his reflux (for the most part).

I didn't notice any side effects.

  • Well, if the H1 blockers are notorious for making people sleepy, it stands to reason that it is possible for the H2 blockers to have some sleepy side effects.  My daughter didn't seem sleepy, but then again, maybe your baby is just finally getting some relief and is able to sleep better?
